Draught @ The Ginger Man, NYC. Pours slightly hazy amber with stable beige head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Bitter, hoppy flavour with sweetish notes of malt and caramel and a grainy touch. Mildly bitter finish. OK.

Single bottle from HyVee, Davenport. Hm, pours a golden color when my impression of an "East Coast" lager is shaped by the more amber colored Sams and Brooklyns and Yuengling. But okay. Sudsy head, lots of bubbles clinging to side, and a pronounced papery oxidation smell under the cap make this look like a bowling alley beer. I can catch a small amount of malt on the nose, nothing huge. But then, an agreeably malty taste with some peppery German hops right up front. Thought I caught a bit of extra saccharine, but it slipped away again. Finishes up nice and malty, just don’t know what this has that keeps it from being called a pilsener.

Bottle from RSVP Pours a solid black with a huge creamy tan head that persists forever leaving lots of sticky lace on the way down. Aromas of chocolate and roast with hints of dark pitted fruits, licorice, and just a touch of oxidation. The flavor is chocolate drizzled sweet cherries and raspberries up front with just a touch of warming alcohol. Licorice, caramel and brown sugar with a touch of earth hop flavor round this one out nicely. Thick body with a velvety creamy smooth mouthfeel, and a light level of carbonation. This is a very nice brew, the chocolate and fruity flavors integrate very well and the abv is well hidden.

Bottle from RSVP Pours a solid dark brown/black color with a huge frothy tan head that dissipates slowly. Smells of cheap bourbon or sour mash with a hint of chocolate sweetness and maybe some faint dark fruit notes. The flavor has a hint of chocolate and dark fruit, but like the aroma this one is a huge bourbon bomb with a hint of tart fruitiness. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a slick tart mouthfeel. No bottle dating on this and being a bit far from home I wonder how old this beer is. It feels like the start of a mild barrel infection here, but the base beer doesn’t seem thick enough to stand up to the thinning effects of the tannins in the barrel. Decent brew, but could be so much better.

Bomber from some Total Wine somewhere. Pours a clear red-bronze color with a medium frothy tan head. Good head retention. Nice looking beer. Aroma of toffee, slight oxidation, hoppy finish. The taste is caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, bitter hop finish. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.
