From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear orange gold with a thick white head. Grassy aroma. Flavors of pine resin and hints of citrus, Bitter but not over the top finish. A good DIPA.

Bottle. Clear golden yellow color, small white head. Aroma of fresh grass and subtle scallions. Taste is bitter lemongrass.

Lemon zest nose. Clear golden, thin head. Lemon zest flavor, which turns to celery and grass. Decent, but seems a little vegetal and could use a greater malt presence.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but this was released in 1/2013. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, and honey sweetness. Damn nice aromas with very good balance and complexity of hop notes; solid malt balance and good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, honey, and floral earthiness. Good amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus zest, pineapple, tangerine, pine, floral, grass, honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop flavors; with a good malt balance that isn’t too strong; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy, slick, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. Very nice balance and complexity of hop flavor with good malt balance; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear copper color with a frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of resin, herbal and candied citrus hop notes. The taste is resin, herbal, candied citrus hops, caramel malts. Medium bodied.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a thin frothy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of floral, herbal, resin hops and caramel malts. The taste is strong herbal hops, toasted malts and caramel. Medium bodied.

Cask. Muddy golden brown color, white edge head. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit. Taste is smooth and balanced fruit and straw.

22 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pear, apple, floral, chocolate, toast, dark bread, light roast, and herbal. Decent and pleasant aromas; but are not nearly as roasted as I expected for a schwarzbier. Fruity esters are stronger than the malt notes. Taste of chocolate, toast, roasted malt, toffee, pear, apple, floral, dark bread, earth, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, toast, roasted malt, toffee, light fruits, floral, dark bread, herbal, and earth on the finish for a short bit. Nice flavor robustness and balance; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good schwarzbier. Nicely robust flavors with good balance; and very smooth to drink. This was a pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Aroma: The aroma is a smoked malts and sweet maple mostly, light herbal hops
Appearance: It pours a clearish mahogany color with a small beige head
Flavor: The flavor is similar to the nose component-wise, with sweetness and smoke
Palate: This one is medium bodied, with average-plus carbonation, and a slightly smokey finish
Overall Impression:  This is a solid one for sure, with nice components. Worth trying.

Devil’s Den, Philadelphia tap ($6): Pours a red colour with a creamy head. Aroma is citrus hops and a hefty amount of caramel malt, along with whatever oatmeal smells like. Taste is moderately bitter, but paled in comparison to the Hoppin Frog IPA I had right before this. Body is rather nice and smooth and the carbonation is mellow. Not bad for an amber.
