Description
Bad Shepherd Beer Company is the brewery for Black Sheep Burrito & Brews restaurant and is located at their Charleston location. There are Black Sheep locations in Charleston and Huntington West Virginia. Eleven house-brewed beers on tap means that aside from flagship beer The Loud, and popular How Ewe Doin? Cream Ale, there are new brews constantly rotating through the other taps. A barrel program turns out a variety of sour ales and the occasional whiskey-barrel aged stout.

On tap at Black Sheep Charleston. Dark brown with medium brown highlights with small off-white head. Aroma is spicy, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is spicy, oak, red wine, and hints of booze.

Bottle from weihenweizen: pours black with beige head. Aroma is vanilla, some barrel notes, chocolate. Taste is somewhat sweet, light woodiness, vanilla. Pretty good.

Smoke on the nose. Some dark chocolate. Definitely some cigarette coffee vibe. Almost a hint of ashtray. Black pour with mocha initial head that disappears pretty quickly. Some cloying aftertaste takes away from strong initial aroma. Can.

Bottle from Weihenweizen: black with a beige head. Aroma is soy sauce, booze, barrel and some roast. Molasses, booze, soy sauce. Not that much whiskey notes as other barrel aged beers often have. Hefty.

Can from weihenweizen, thanks: pours black with a beige head. Aroma is molasses, hints of chocolate, maybe a cigarette. Taste is somewhat sweet, but has a nice dry finish. Nice smooth body. Good.
