Twisted Barrel Ale
Microbrewery
in Coventry,
West Midlands,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Twisted Barrel Brewery Tap House
Established in 2014
After months of hard work developing a small selection of beers that would appeal to Coventry's patrons thirsting for our unique mix of modern and classical styles and methods we launched our beers at Coventry's number 1 bottle bar, Inspire, and it was a huge success. Originally brewing on a 60 litre kit, we described ourselves as 'the UK's first Pico-brewery'.
20th June 2015 and we held another launch. This time in our brand new Brewery and Tap House at FarGo Village. With a new 1000 litre brewing kit and an entirely new brand design from Stewart Easton, we've finally become the brewery we always set out to be. Almost 2 years later we transferred our bar and brewing kit into a space about 5 times larger than before, we're still serving the best beer at FarGo Village.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants, online. This one with Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic. Pours a hazy gold, moderate sized white foamy head, good retention, some lacing. Aroma is grainy, lemon zest, tropical hints, aromatic. Taste is chewy sweet malts, lemon zest, grapefruit, yeast, grass. Quite dry with modest bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, refreshing quality, fine carbonation. Good beer if a little understated.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants, online. Light cloudy pale gold, small white head, some scattered retention. I think its difficult for sour beers to look great but no expert. Aroma has an overripe fruitiness, certainly lemon sherbet as described. Taste is lemon sherbet, some citrus zest, moderate sourness then an odd yeasty off note. Light bodied, low fine carbonation. Not a fan of this one. Maybe they need a colab with Wild Beer Co.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants, online. Pours a cloudy lemon-gold colour, small white head, decent retention. Big fruit salad aroma, picking up pineapple, melon, lemon and lime, herbs, wheat. Taste is zesty and light tropical melon, somewhat dry and chewy and yet has a refreshing lightness. Herbal bitter finish with a tingle of pepper. Very good.

Can from HOTM. A murky pinky-orange colour with an off white head. Dry, lightly tart cranberries up front followed by warm, woody, spicy cinnamon in a slightly bitter finish. There's a trace of salt in the aftertaste to prove it's gose credentials. Does exactly what it says on the tin, but it feels oddly elegant (apart from the looks). Maybe not something I'd want in a pub session, but as a pre-Christmas dinner aperitif this was rather good.
