Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

Interested when I first read the name of the beer on the can. Super and I mean SUPER hazy golden coloured body with a large, dense, five centimetre tall white head - this looks like a glass of pure wort. Aroma of great fresh grapefruity, piney hops with some herbal notes, a ton of yeast and some nice mellow malts, but I don’t smell oats. Medium-bodied; Strong piney and citrus hops showing cascades with a lot of earthiness soon afterwards and a nice full-bodied finish that must be the oats. Aftertaste shows a more pronounced alcohol warmth with a ridiculous body that isn’t perceptable until after a sip. Overall, a very nice and well put together beer. For sampling tons of new styles and concoctions all the time, this one still surprised me and I thoroughly enjoyed it - I’ll try to find this more the next time I head to the PNW, as it’s a very good beer and I’m glad I brought it back home! I sampled this sixteen ounce can purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 10-February-2013 for US$2.75 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 03-April-2013.

On tap at Noble Fir, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a bit of chocolate and some burnt notes - not very inviting. Flavour of slightly sweet chocolate malt, medium roasted malt and dry cocoa. Medium-bodied, with a dry roasty palate. Good stuff, but fairly standard impie stout.

500 ml can. Very cool design. Drank out of the can. Rich robust coffee flavor, metallic, dry, dark fruit, super sweet dark chocolates. Fairly big and smooth. Odd in some ways.
