Bottle from Davies’ Servo in Launceston (worth a visit, surprisingly broad range of Tassie products) Black with a small tan head that lasts. Aroma is roasty with molasses, licorice and like the porter, a mildly astringent apple note. Lowish carbonation, quite silky. Bitter coffee, roasted barley, astringent somewhat apple-ish finish. Odd but enjoyable.

Tap. Darkish amber with an off white head. Caramel / herbal aroma. Thin, moderate carbonation. Moderately sweet with caramel, some nuts, weedy bitterness, a little metallic. Not my sort of thing.

Bottle. Dark brown with a small tan head. Modest aroma of chocolate, treacle, apples. Medium bodied. Quite roasty with chocolate dark sugars, some cold coffee, hints of berries and apples; balancing, slightly spicy bitterness. Not sure whether that slight applish tanginess is supposed to be there but I like it.

I was drawn to this one as its sat in the glass, pale as straw, with skittish bubbles flying everywhere. The aroma drew me in further, with banana, orange, lemon and a little bi carb of soda. All was going well, right up until I tasted it. Mostly, I got lemon zest with a little clove, such that I could have been drinking an alcoholic lemon concoction - at least it was refreshing. A strange one to say the least.
