33 cl bottle @Β home, BBE 16.08.2017
Aroma is a bit odd with some cocoa and vanilla. Also salty licorice. Flavour has grapefruity hops, salty licorice, some mild vanilla tones, and coffee. A bit too salty but not bad.

Tulip at City Tavern. Aroma is lactose and mild chocolate. Black with brown highlights and minimal cola head. Smooth milk hides the alcohol. Finished very dry. Moderate roast and bitter.

Draught at City Tavern in Dallas. Slightly hazy orange-amber with creamy vanilla head that sustains as a small coating of bubbles and patterns down glass. Slight honey and flora aspects. A little papery. Slight Belgian funk seems a little off with the malt and hops. Tough style to hit.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of raspberry and chocolate. Taste is raspberry, chocolate, coffee, notes, dark malts. Not too much raspberry - balances fairly well with the chocolate and stout flavors. Decent.

Keg at DFW Airport. Almost clear amber, creamy head. Perfumy pear and marzipan aroma. Mid sweet with medium-full body and dense, rounded mouthfeel. A bit caramelly with dough and marzipan, some pear and elderflowers. Long really bitter finish.

Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Black, rich creamy head. Chocolaty nose with vanilla and caramel. Very sweet with full body and rounded, sticky mouthfeel. Cream and milk chocolate with caramel and treacle. Warming finish. A very sweet and voluptious, Texan size, temptress.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall tan head that tops the beer nicely and fades a bit too quickly. Aroma of cherries, oak, dry malt, caramel, raisins, cognac and a bit of alcohol. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich malty flavours with some oak, malt, toffee, peat, earth, grain, rye, metal and quite a bit of alcohol and bitter deep flavours of pit fruits, earth, medicinal and slightly astringent flavours and finishing with some vanilla and a touch of unfinished yeast. Aftertaste is deep and pungent with the earthier and astringent flavours pushing through harder than the rest, but some sweetness from honey and pit fruits ends the complexity. Overall, a nice robust beer with a lot of complexities and a smoothish profile and moderate complexity throughout make this interesting, but not amazing. Iβm still happy that I traveled back with this one from Texas and aged it as long as I did. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Specβs Liqour in Dallas, Texas on 11-November-2015 for US$13,67 sampled at home in Washington on 16-February-2017.

Tasted at Midland On Tap from a 12oz. bottle. It was served a inky black body and yielded no head to speak of. I smelled molasses and tasted dark toast, dark chocolate and a sweet finish, a fruity brown sugar. Carries through with a slight bitterness. Best I had today.
