Golden-amber with a slight haze. Earthy , slightly toasty aroma. Toast, caramel, slight orange marmaladey note. Mostly a moderate bitterness. Unexciting rendition.

Bottle. Pours a thick and dark brown with a finger or so of tan head. My first impressions of aroma are that it is sweet and slightly fruity, which had me a little confused. As it sat for a couple of minutes, it picked up a lot more dark malt aromas: chocolate and oats with a little bit of a dark fruit backdrop still perceptible. So far this is off to a good start. Flavor is smooth and fairly well-balanced, which is a bit of a surprise for me since most Erie brews have struck me as highly astringent and just a little off. This has a very nice roasted malt complex with a smooth texture and a little bit of a creamy sweetness. Every now and then it seems to fall apart a bit and comes off as a little thin, but all things considered, this is a good stout.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Clear reddish copper color with a thin beige head. Aromas of caramel and fruit. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is berry or cherry over light roasted caramel. More barley wine than scotch - not getting much smoke. Smooth finish.

Courtesy of Gillard. Pours deep dark brown with brown edges and thin tan head. The aroma is pretty nice with molasses mixing with burnt malts and a dash of oxidation. The taste is burnt malts that roll into charred ashes. Beneath the burnt malts are mild notes of molasses and a moderate level of lighter roasted malts. The flavor is pretty darn charred.

courtesy of gillard. Pours black with beige head and light golden lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and oats. Taste, malty, light chocolate, at, weak coffee mouthfeel. Another Erie brew that disappoints.

Nice chunky copper and amber coloured body with highlights of ruby and orange and a nice, albeit rather large-bubbled sized head. Aroma of fresh hops, metal, corn and a decent amount of malt. Medium-bodied; Astringent hops up front with chemicals and too much yeast in the palate. Aftertaste shows more clarity with the bittering hops up front and a light effervescence behind. Overall, a good but fairly one-sided and jaded (by the sharp taste up front) beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 22-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 22-January-2009.

Courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours clear golden with quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is hoppy, light notes of spices and yeast, mixed with citrus -pineapple, faint smooth sugary malts in the nose. Taste, bitter floral hops, citrus, yeast with very light notes of coriander and wheat. Thin and crisp finish. Meh.

Chestnut color, moderate foamy head. Butterscotch, biscuity malts, mildly grainy nose. Sweetish at first but overall pretty balanced with cookiesh malts, a touch of herbal or grassy hop, a hint of anise?, balanced finish. Malts have a touch of twang in the aftertaste. Palate a little thin, but part of it is the low carbonation giving this a fairly light English ale palate. On the whole its really very boring.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one. Deep amber in color, this struggles with a thin white head. Floral hop aroma, earthy malts. Slightly bitter overall, bitter finish but the malt base is discernible. Weak. Re-rate. This sample was just better overall. Palate was still a bit thin, but it had better aroma, flavor and a nice head this time.
