Bottle (trade with JK). An initial mocha coffee aroma that get more and more buttery as it warms - reminds me of a chocolate croissant. Dark black-brown color with film of a head. Flavor initially a bland cream followed by a caramel corn/Cracker Jack flavor. Low carbonation and mild hops finish. Description very accurate - would be a nice breakfast beer.

Bottle (courtesy of JK). Melted caramel, pinetree and alcohol aroma. Cloudy dark brown with small head. Strong alcohol bite initially that quickly fades to a creamy caramel flavor. Strong hops finish. Very interesting brew - strong alcohol and extremely pleasant caramel flavor seem to stay separated.

Very carbonated black pour, with a foamy tan head that fills half the glass, then disappears completely, leaving a beer that looks like a glass of cola - highly smokey aroma, with copious amounts of anise, molassas and cocoa - dry and smokey, with a foamy, somewhat thin mouthfeel - caramel sweetness far in the back - a slight lactic quality, with some sourness hanging around near the finish - a unique porter, but nothing special.

They might call it a schwarzbier, but it has the qualities of a Czech dunkel and a fairly good one at that. Light malt and caramel in the aroma, followed by more caramel and smoke in the flavor. Black with very little head, and just a hint of that Viking house flavor. Medium body and a session beer. Like a Czech beer, it has good palate. I recommend a style change to dunkel but will wait to see what others think of this beer.

Rich and fairly heavy palate, but something seems off with the light fruit flavor. Looks ok; dark bronze color, some carbonation. Respectable malt flavor; and how good can a Vienna really get anyway? The beer was served to me by the very friendly brewer himself, so any flaws were his responsibility.

This beer is full of lime aroma and flavor and should be classified as a fruit beer. The fruit is so dominant in the flavor that there can be no question about this. It looks like a slightly cloudy wheat beer. The aroma is all lime, and the flavor is much like a Corona but packed with lime juice. Refreshing and light. Just a bit sour. A good idea that didn’t really work out.

2004? 12oz bottle from Robertsreality. Shared with OldGrowth on 5/28/2005. Auburn-amber colored body is murky-cloudy with a small white head that recedes rapidly to cover and retained from there. Cereal grains in the nose, dates, plums and, as OldGrowth noted, cherries. No bockyness really. Aroma is rather faint overall. Flavor is bready, with lots of fruits: cherries, candied oranges. Some light chocolate covered cherry notes, more dry/astringent breadiness on end. Medium body, somewhat loose and thin on end. No alcohol noted. Low carbonation. Body/malt sweetness seemed to increase as it warmed, which was good, but it still dosent come off as a doppelbock to me.

2004? Bottle from Robertsreality, thanks! Shared with OldGrowth on 5/28/2005. Opaque brown-black (light tested), no lacing. Light tan head recedes to ring quickly and fizzles away. Smells of oats, maybe lactose, cream, milk chocolate. Flavor is smooth oats, light milkiness on the end. Bit of dusty dryness, light wateriness. Some roasted malt bitterness on the end. Medium body. Very low carbonation.

2004 bottle from Robertsreality! Thanks man, this hit the spot! Cocoa brown head is gone as soon as I look up from writing my note on its color. Beautiful (to me) murky brown, highly unfiltered body. Deep burguny sheen on a hot chocolate background. Smells of cocoa, marshmallow, vanilla. Flavor? Yes! I exclaim. Sweet cocoa is not overdone, not syrupy and not cloying. Cayenne pepper burns nicely while swallowing and lingers well on the aftertaste. Soft, very near to uncarbonated. Very even mouthfeel, slippery you might say. Graham crackers and cocoa on the finish, some chocolate malt is hidden in there, faintest hint of roast. Medium body. Damn I enjoyed this!

I picked up some apple as well, but I don’t think they are intended to be there. There was a terrific bock aroma when I opened the bottle, but after pouring it I couldn’t find the aroma again. Light red. Considerable dry malt in the aftertaste. The flavor is strange, not like a standard bock at all; almost a mix of different lager styles as Wawood suggested. I wonder if this could be infected, or if there was a problem with the cap; Viking has issues with both of these defects.
