Description
Buckeye Brewing began brewing in 1997. The flagship beer, Hippie IPA, was first bottled in 1998. We are one of only three breweries bottling in Cleveland, OH. While well known for hoppy Pale and IPA, other styles shine as well. Buckeye produces everything from German-style Kolsch to Belgian-style Saison. Buckeye’s bottled products can be found in quality bottle shops across Ohio. Buckeye currently brews on a 15 barrel Century brew house. Stay tuned for updates on our front page.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a longish lasting white head over a hazed golden orange body. Aroma of toast, butter, caramel and styrofoam. Taste is toast, light diacetyl and even lighter hops. Fizzy mouthfeel.

22oz bottle. Thick deep orange-brown color with a ridiculously foamy head. A little on the dark side of the IPA spectrum, certainly Fresh, crisp seawater hop aroma. Some solid all around hopping, but the syrupy thick and sweet malt backbone. A quality beer with lots of big malt flavor, but while the hops are certainly nice and present, they are a little dominated by the malt bill.

Somewhat dull and flat. Very dark brown colour. There’s sort of a burnt toffee note to this, but also some inappropriate phenols. It’s extra roasty and astringent with a hint of soy sauce. It’s big, but has little going for it. No real complexity, and the flavours and aromas do not correspond with any foreign stout I’ve ever had.

Golden dark amber. Chewy nose but some fun elements - mint, rye toast and a hint of chocolate malt. On the palate, its soft but slightly chewy with that IIPA hop extract mintiness. Good balance, pretty fun for a style that too often takes itself too seriously.

Bottle from the Beer Engine. The beer pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin and creamy off-white head that recedes steadily. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, malt and dark fruit. Rich body with flavors of zesty hops and pine primarily, as well as some fruit and warming alcohol. The finish is spicy hops with a light caramel undertone. A little on the harsh side overall but still pretty good.

2008 22 ounce bottle courtesy of dankman38. Pours a clear red color with a brownish tinge. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma is citrus hops with earthy malts and some zesty spiciness. Taste is pine and citrus hop with toffeish malts. Slight alcohol warmth. Full bodied. Very much like a barleywine.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a clear pale yellow color with a thin and fizzy white head that dissipates steadily. Thick craggy rings of lacing on the glass. Mild hops and zesty fruit in the nose. Light and clean body with flavors of lightly spiced hops, fruit and pale malt. The finish is mildly spiced with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle: Black with a large, fluffy beige head. Nose is sweet and roasty. Tastes heavy in the roasted malt with a bit of coffee and some tobacco notes. Some bitters. Nice lacing and a creamy feel. Thanks for the Buckeye brew from BuckeyeBoy!
