Since 2015 we brew our "Original Ritterguts Gose" in close collaboration with Brauerei Reichenbrand in Chemnitz. This small, classic family-brewery fulfills all the requirements necessary for the optimization of our very special brewing process -- in particular the availability of open-fermentation, which we consider a primary component in making a proper gose.

0.5 l bottle from 'AleHub', best before June 2023. Hazy, golden with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, white head. Slightly sweetish, minimally sourish, moderately fruity and maybe a little smoky aroma of lemon peel, sauerkraut and pickles. Slightly sweet, minimally sourish, moderately fruity and a little smoky taste of grains, sauerkraut, pickles, lemon peel and a touch of smoked eel, followed by a short, minimally tart, gently dry finish. Thin to medium body, fairly effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Very refreshing, superbly balanced Lichtenhainer, only faintly smoky and hardly sour but totally harmonious. Great session stuff.

Very good, ultra-dense & fine, just off-white head, lacey, over cloudy yellow beer. Phenolic, lactic acid, smoke, mineral, various herbs, dried lemonpeel. And ironoxide wafting from the (too) stable head. Smoke more outspoken in the flavour, Rauchmalz, ham, bit refreshing and a bit lemony (the wheat?). Not really sour, less phenolic than the nose, and pretty balanced! Light body, very good carbonation, head giving a creamy feel. Another oh-so-interesting revival. Like it, really. Txs to Joren for bringing!

Bottle at Salon piva. Light sourness, med-light bitterness, slightly minerally. Quite light smoke, med-light bready wheaty flavour. Overall pretty characterless though, very neutral, nothing really stands out. Drinkable, but not great.

Bottle. Amber gold, slightly murky. Smell: Cold apple sour salt. Taste: Refreshing, sour, sparkly. A tiiiiny fruit-sticky aftertaste, but more in the sense of cider or Federweißer - makes you want another sip, not a different beer to get rid of the taste ;) Decent.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.3%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Wheaty aroma, hints of fart and smoke. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sour flavour, notes of lactic acid and lightly smoked wheat malts, also some fruity notes reminiscent of yellow plums. Low bitterness. Not bad, not great, historically interesting - but there is probably a reason that the Lichtenhainer beer style died out.

500mL bottle, best before December 2018, from the cooler, drunk 8/29/22. Clear, amber-brass. Large, butter-colored, off-white head is large, steadily fizzling out to a somewhat dense cover. Very wine-like in the nose, though not from prune/plum/raisin, but rather an elegant, refined acidity reminiscent of the boisterous red fruit of an Austrian red. Jammy almost with big strawberry and raspberry. Must be the coriander and pine mixing with the normal yeast character. Whatever the case, it's fantastic, clean and aromatic. Soft, succulent, malty and rich with good attenuation and even better acidity on the finish. Coriander further dries things out at length, while the boisterous red fruit and playful acidity, still reminiscent of an Austrian red wine, lingers. Don't get traditional smokiness, but you can tell it's there if you look for it (more in the peppery phenol undertones). Just an incredible balance to both malt, lactic acid and adjunct with no big pininess, nor overabundance of coriander. This is some pretty god damned special stuff and now I want to try all of their beers and visit their brewery.
