Description
Brasserie de Silly NV is still family-owned and is now in the hands of the sixth generation of the same family. The company is managed by cousins, Lionel and Bertrand Van der Haegen. Bertrand is responsible for production and Lionel looks after sales. Their parents, brothers Jean-Paul and Didier Van der Haegen are still active Board members. Brasserie de Silly has seen steady growth thanks to export sales and its quality image. Production in 2008 was 1,000,000 litres, but in 2018, 2,500,000 litres are expected to flow out of the tanks. Sales are on the up and up. Belgian beers produced in a traditional way are increasingly popular around the globe.

Bottled. Golden colour, huge white head. Aroma is acidic citrus fruit and yeast. Maybe some wheat in it too, since I think the nose is very "witbierish". Flavour is yeast, sour citric fruits, some earthy and wheaty notes too.

Bottle, BB 08/12/07. Golden, light pearling carbonation, big foamy eggshell head. Aroma starts dusty and grainy with some phenolic play, deepens into a vinous grape note. Unexpectedly strong apricot flavor, fermenting oranges, dry grainy and minerally notes lurk in the background, sponge retronasal. Metallic and yeasty finish - peters off into nothingness. Sparkly and dry mouthfeel.

Bottled (BB 04/2008). Strong blonde mixed with rum ... hmm. A bit hazy pale yellow color, huge white Duvel-like white head. Lemony, slightly fruity and grassy nose. Very alcoholic, very sweet - sugary and fruity sweet. Some grassy notes. Not rum found here - or maybe it is Stroh type extra strong one which is added here. Unbalanced, just too sweet and too much alcoholic burn here. I prefer good European strong lager for this combination.
