Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.
We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.
We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

22oz bottle. Hazy golden-tan aroma. Big, frothy, off-white head laces the glass. Dry, with a sweet golden malt background. Even though itβs approaching Heller Bock territory with the matl sweetness, Id still say this is a nice example of an Imperial Pils. Fresh, bold, with some complexity. Peppery hops. Sweet, creamy, doughy malt notes. Well done.

Location: Draft at Amity Hall, 8/28/10
Aroma: The nose is a bit of wheat, some lemon, orange, and spice
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden-amber color with a white head
Flavor: The taste has a boring spice, citrus, and wheat flavor to it
Palate: It has a fairly light body, thin, watery, and a bit on the sticky side
Overall Impression: A new pretty boring wheat beer offering from Abita. It is basically what I should have been expecting, but I was expecting better anyway...

Bottle. Pours with a clear golden body and a white head. Aroma of hay, grain, bread and notable spicy/nearly citrus hops. A little bit of alcohol. Taste is dry, grain and bread with lingering bitterness. Not too much hop flavor just a decent amount of bitterness. Pretty bland but not offensive. Maybe the lightest hint of diacetyl. Somewhat rounded or slick mouthfeel, medium bubbles. Not bad, just bland.

bottle pours light gold with a medium white head. Aroma is grassy, notes of hay and spicy hops. Flavor is sweet cereals, pale malts and sharp hot hop notes in the finish. Very clean finish, nice at 3.99 a bottle.

on tap at Shadeβs, pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is grainy cereals and sweet corn. Flavor follows with sweet corn, grits and grassy malts, mild bitterness in the finish, more floral than anything else. Actually very enjoyable beer.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy yellow gold with a medium frothy off white head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is wheat, bubblegum and citrus. Thick mouthfeel with a bitter malt with banana and a bitter finish. A decent pils from Abita.

Bomber from the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Hazy gold pour with a foamy, clingy 3 finger white head. Aromas of light malt, citrus and grass. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is wheaty with some bread and grass. Maybe a touch of citrus. Finishes nicely bitter in a grassy way. It drinks very, very easily.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow color with a medium sized creamy white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of dry, biscuity malts, peppery hops with a bit of a tropical note. The taste is tropical fruits with pale malts and a dry and bitter peppery hop finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good.

A brown ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, nice caramel malt with plums. In mouth, a boring chalky ale with light brunes, rather pedestrian. On tap at VT Brewers Fest, July 17 2010.
