About
Aloha. That’s how most conversations begin here. It’s also how many of them end. But “Aloha” doesn’t just mean hello and goodbye and love and welcome. It means more than a word can express. It’s a feeling. A way of life. “Aloha” is the idea that we are all connected to everyone and everything around us and that true joy is found in respecting this connection. And it’s in this aloha spirit that the Kona Brewing Company was founded back in 1994 by Cameron Healy and his son Spoon Khalsa. They combined their love of Hawaii and its pristine, natural beauty with their fondness for delicious, local brews, and lucky for us, their dream lives on more than 20 years later.

So try a few of them. And join us in our pursuit of aloha.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a ruby tint. Tan head. Coffee aroma. Coffee and roasted malt flavor. Lingering coffee tones. lighter bodied than expected. A bit too much coffee and not enough beer for my tastes.

Bottle pours a very darkbrown/black, but clear and redish on the edges. Nice creamy tan head that is a bit coarse and fades quickly leaving a thin ring which stays. Aroma is earthy, dark roasted and a bit coffee. Kona I supose. A bit of that slightly sour Porter note as well. Flavor is nice. Plenty of coffee and some dark roasted charcoaly flavors as expected. The trailing notes are a bit like an ash tray from the camp fire smokiness. Nice balance of coffee flavor all in all. A bit thin and not as robust palate as I would like. Finishes clean and overall tasty. Hope to see Kona expand a bit so as to see some of thier other offerings out here in Hauly land.

Bottle pours a medium amber witha small off white head. Spotty lacing. Aroma is of mild malts and a little spicy hops. Flavor is similar. Enough hop bitterness, but not much real flavor. Decent feel and moderately carbonated. Pleasant lingering bitterness.

Bottle: Has some malty tones that get a little bit sweet with some light hops. The flavors compete against each other a bit. Finishes well to bring this lager up to average status.

Color is darker than expected, a solid amber with a thin off-white head. Smell is fairly faint, but hints at citrus and some floral hoppiness. Taste features a solid hop whallop up front, finishes smooth with a sweet malt and light citrus feel. Simple taste, but well done.

Hazy amber-orange body, thin off-white head. Citrusy, bready, earthy and somewhat bitter aroma. Delicate malt sweetness, with notes of caramel and toast, balance the citrusy, earthy hops finish. Maltier and sweeter than most APAs. Thanks, Hezron.
