Bottled (PBF, BB 08/2009). Golden color, small white head. Apple fruity, apple peel aroma. Fizzy carbonation. Apple fruity, sweetish malty flavor. Light palate. This is one of the less horrible Indian beers.

Bottled at Trincas, Kolkata, West Bengal. (Brewed under license by Denzang Breweries, Mukund Prasad, Khurda, Orissa) Pale golden, almost no head. Fruity nose. Medium bodied with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Fruity and salty with peppery undertones. Warming alcohol is there, but it’s still fairly mild and drinkable, although not enjoyable.

Bottled in Kolkata, West Bengal. Yellow colour, rich head. Fruity nose. Sweet and light bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Mellow and void of off flavours. No traces of hops, but rice seem evident. Finishes with a certain pepperiness, but without bitterness.

I only wish I knew what was wrong with this beer. Weird phenols, rotting fruits...totally funky. Old?? Didn’t taste it. Skunked? Probably, but there was more. Analyzing this is a job for the brewing scientist, not me.

650 ml bottle at wine frig temperature. Definite grassy aroma. Pale lemon gold color with a fizzy white head that went away. Slightly biting carbonation with a near medium body. The flavor is lightly sweet and balanced with hop bitter. It’s got enough bitter to head towards some pilsners, but there is a floral/fruit hop character beyond grass. the finish is mildly sweet, but remains balanced. Like other Yuksom brews it is worth drinking and better than many pale lagers.

Nice clean aroma of grassy and floral hop with some pale malt. Golden color with a modest white head. Thin to medium in body with moderate carbonation. The flavor is malt and a floral hop flavor that is relatively strong. Actually seems to be a bit of pepper. Crisp and clean. The finish is fairly dry, and there is a non-bitter hop accompaniment. A bit astringent. The signficant difference from most lagers is not unlike that of Himalayan Blue. Better than many pale lagers, but very different.

650 mL brown bottle. The aroma is unusual. Musty, floral hop? Peppery hop? Standard gold color with a white head that filmed quickly. Thin to medium in body with mild, approaching creamy, carbonation. The flavor is outstanding. The mouth tingles with pepper or spice. Not hot, but a non-bitter hop, I’m surmising. It’s got enough floral to satisfy a light ale drinker. Spicy, peppery hop can be found in English lagers, so mayhap this represents a lingering tradition from colonial days. Sikkim has only been part of India since about 1975. Whatever, it’s not the typical lager drain pour. Hoisting this one to the Empire.

500 ml bottle: $2.79 at BevMo in Valencia, CA. I had to try this to compare it to the Great Divide Yeti and get a rating from India; Nose is a sour skunky smell; gold with a smalll white head; flavor is of corn but with a little sourness in the finish. Not totally undrinable since I spent all morning painting the fashia boards on my house in 95 degree heat.
