Description
Back in 2009 a few of us craft beer enthusiasts and history buffs from Cheboygan shared an idea. We dreamed of reestablishing a proud local brewery, one out of production since the wave of prohibition captured northern Michigan like it did the rest of the country. We imagined brewing fabulous beers that respected the heritage of the original recipes and brought time honored brewing techniques and a few brewmaster secrets to the table.

Like the brewers who first made beer in Cheboygan beginning in the 1800s, we begin with the clean, cool water from the Great Lakes watershed. Combined with the choicest malts, and our brew master's keen attention to detail, we are creating beer that is the nectar of the north country!

Four pack acquired. One can was poured into a nonic pint glass, two cans were poured into becher pint glasses, and one can was poured into an English pint glass. If ever given a chance again, yes, the next time it will be poured into a proper stange for a possible traditional review.
Majority of these notes are based on the two becher pint glass notes.
Appearance: dark brown color with a two finger off white foamy head, subtle sliding lace
Aroma: apple-like tones, chocolate malts, earthy hops, dark bread, spicy yeastiness
Flavor: the spicy yeast meets the apple tones and chocolate malts in a well centered clean way, chocolatey apple-like aftertaste
Texture: light to medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Lower than expected carb to it, mild chocolatey and earthy finish
Overall: I like this take on an altbier, I believe it fits for the most part but I do wonder what true altbier fans ultimately think of this.

HopCat Royal Oak draught, 5/10/25.
Lightly hazy, sunny orange with light copper tints. Small, off-white head.
Fruity nose without any overly crackery wheat. No excessive sugar from adjuncts or even much peppery fermentation character from the honey. Mostly it's just good, honest base malt. And clean.
Soft, very malty with soft, chewy wheat, lightly sweet honey and an earthy, slightly floral blood orange that adds gentle acidity, enough to balance. Clean, well-executed and nicely malty.
