Sweet but not cloying, this is a really enjoyable stout with notes of coffee, cherry and honey, but it's the toast finish that really makes it.

Bottle bought from the National Brewery Centre, Burton. Very light yellow, clear with some visible carbonation and a small layer of wispy white head. Lemon, white grape, hay, ground coriander and gentle notes of lychee on the aroma with a light vegetal note. Sweet taste with Chardonnay, white pepper, cream soda. The finish is bordering on too sweet but it's a light enough flavour for it to get away with it. A really decent Helles.

355ml bottle. Cloudy, reddish, dark amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Mellow malty aroma with a bready touch, minimal rye-like malty spiciness, a touch of spelt. Taste is minimally sweet, fruity hoppy and rather neutral malty, hints of red berries, a touch of cherry, cautious malty spiciness with a touch of rye and spelt. OK.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours amber with a slight haze and a creamy, lacing off-white head. Nose has sweet, toffee and nuts - kinda overripe fruit. A little oxidized perhaps? Some phenols - no real phenols, it just.....ends. Not in very good shape or simply poorly crafted. 071218
