About
Traditionally brewed local beer.
A beer that makes every Flemish person proud !

The Brouwerij van Vlaanderen was founded in 2002 to celebrate 700 years of the Battle of the Golden Spurs. Initially, in 2002, the beer was commissioned at De Proefbrouwerij in Hijfte, but after a year production was transferred to the Van Steenberge brewery in Ertvelde. In 2016, the brand was transferred to a company in Wielsbeke.

Blonde session ale brewed for a Flemish nationalist beer company, with hazy blonde colour under a steady off-white head and estery aroma with peach, apple, pale malt sweetness, yeastiness and clear DMS (cooked cabbage). Malt sweet taste with estery fruitiness, basic, a bit metallic, a bit bland, nothing really happens and the finish is brief with some leafy hoppiness. Totally cliché and redundant.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Bierfestival Mechelen 2014. Dark copper brown, little tanned bubbles head. Nose is sweet watery herbal, thick liquorish mess with off-putting heavy spices, light varnish. Taste is watery varnish, wood, bark, heavy liquorish, caramel, wood, light metal. Watery. Totally not my taste.

Bottle from De Zytholoog. Golden colour, white foam. Lively carbonation. Sweet aroma with metallic notes and bitter aftertaste. Unbalanced, typical Van Steenberge flavour, a flavour I don’t like.

Ordinary Belgian tripel. Has the usual traits, but remains a bit flat. Strange that they labeled a beer after such a nationalistic and violent event.

Hazy pale amber colour, one finger frothy white head, recedes slowly, thin layer remains, good lacing. Aroma malty, banana, yeast, dough, bit toffee, coriander. Taste light sweet, slightly bitter, alcoholic and spicy notes. Full body, oily to creamy texture, all taste elements including some acidity present in finish.

33 cl. bottle @ De Stroopop in Zoersel. BBF 17/04/2015. Almost clear bright golden with an off-white head. Nose is iron, candy, orange & pretty heavy on esters. Taste is pretty basic, plenty of esters, slightly boozy, orange peel, apples, candy sugar, touch iron,… Light, touch higher carb. Pretty dull & basic brew. Nothing objectionable here.

33cl bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear yellow color with some chunks floating in it, soapy white head that disappears quickly. Faint aroma of malts, lightly sweetness and lightly herbs or spices. Taste lightly malts, some sweetness. Too sweet, too much carbonation and only a medium body.
