Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a clear dark reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Caramel malt aroma along with hops in the nose. Medium body with a well balanced sweet biscuit malt and citrusy hops character. The finish is sweet with a lingering caramel finish. Decent Amber overall.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a hazy amber color with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. The aroma is moderately hoppy with a solid earthy malt undertone. Medium-bodied and round with subtle hops, fruit and malt flavors. The finish is balanced between piney hops and malt. Overall this is a somewhat toned-down take on the original, despite what the name implies. I was not very impressed.

16 oz shaker pint at Pizza Port Solana Beach. Pour is slightly hazed copper golden, a bunch of carbonation and a 1/2 inch white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of fresh resin sweet citrus and pine hoppiness. A touch of toasty malt behind that. Taste is the nose, though with big resin graininess, more pine than citrus, toasty malt really comes through nice. Finish is dry and bitter. Palate is medium, thin, high carb, very bitter and drying in the finish. Super drinkable.
