Pour is a murky brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a sweet molasses with some brown sugar and leather. Flavor is a super sweet caramel malt with some earthy malt and some cigar type tobacco. A nice flavorful malt heavy ale, it’s just super sweet.

Tap. Pours hazy hazel, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma of funk, cheese. Flavor is fairly salty, light tart, lots of funk, kind of a pasture thing, mushroom. High on the savory scale. Lingering salt. Fairly full body. Definitely different, unfortunately not in a good way.

Bottle. It pours a clear golden orange color with a frothy white head. The aroma has some toasted malt, mild bubblegum and pepper notes. Lightly flowery hops. Hints of orchard fruit. The flavor has some toasted malt and rather strong bubblegum notes up front followed by pepper, apple and pear notes. The body is pretty lean and well attenuated, but does have a bit of an oily, honey-like mouthfeel that seems out of style. No major off flavors. I like the combination of fruit and peppery yeast notes. The maltiness seems appropriate as well. Overall, a pretty nice traditional Saison except for the fuller body.

Clear golden coloured body with a faint pale straw glow, and a decent, three centimetre tall pure white microbubbled head. Aroma of citrus, ginger, lemongrass, earth and a faint medicinal, spicey smell - nice and aromatic. Light-bodied; Sharp ginger flavour at first with a lot of other spice notes and some earthy, dry grass flavours as well. Aftertaste shows the ginger and a lot of lemongrass and herbs - mostly a spice kick than anything else, but almost in a good way, given that it’s so light. Overall, a nice, very flavourful, pungent spicey beer that still finishes easy and isn’t cloying. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from West LakeView Liqours in Chicago, Illinois on 14-November-2015 for US$6,95 sampled at home in Washington on 17-April-2016 on a day when Chicago [Blackhawks] lost but Detroit [Red Wings] won - a great day to drink a beer from Chicago.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home prior to watching baseball. Appearance is a cloudy gold with a robust billowy white head. Aroma of light pepper and spice, smells carbonated, light clove, unique. Taste is decent, light spice not overpowering, which is good when compared to other spicy brews out there. It’s decent.
