Elongated goblet draft (14oz) at Small Bar Logan Square ($5). Dark red color, cannot see through it but glows against the candle light. I should say that Imperial Reds are usually not my thang. I dislike caramel and assertive bitterness/resin. This beer was not that. Aroma is moderate hop bitterness slightly overtaking a great Juicy Fruit hoppiness. The hops are sweet, back by some residual sugars, and some tropical fruit to make what basically tastes like Juicy Fruit gum. Flavor is even better with nothing but that Juicy Fruit, which makes me so happy. Bitterness is actually lower in the flavor and just a bit of caramel maltiness at the end of the flavor. A moderate bitterness in the aftertaste.

I guess you’d expect to catch the crew rhymin’

So, extra points for the name that is definitely not a reference to the Beasties but whatever. The beer is pretty wonderful, I thought it was a small Baltic Porter. Very clean and mineral roast on the nose. Flavor is well attenuated, some caramel sweetness and a clean roast finish. Very light and very flavorful. 6oz draft at Jerry’s in WIcker Park.

Bad artificial cherry. Underneath that is a decent ESB. Flavor better with less cherry and more of a clean English blond rather than ESB. Light but boring and hate the cherey

Draft. Has a thick strong head that never fully fades. Color is pale gold, a bit hazy. A very spicy rye and spicy hops mixed with some citrus and pine. A thicker, smoother mouthfeel that goes well with the construction of the beer. Long hoppy bitter aftertaste.

Sample at Prairie Moon in Evanston, IL. Clear orange-amber color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Malt, caramel and hops in the nose. Light to medium-bodied with a creamy texture and flavors of caramel malt, fruit and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

On draught at Hopleaf. Pours a cloudy orange-yellow color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, pine and roast malt. Light to medium body with flavors of floral hops, pine and biscuit malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.
