Amber coloured, creamy appearance. Sweet and mellow, but also Boddington-style flavourless and one-dimensional.

Black, creamy, roasty, dry and bitter. This was once upon a time one of my favourite beer, but since that I've learned a lot. It is not exactly subtle, but far better than most other mega brews.

Rerate: @stibon, small sample. Aroma of roasted malts, molasses, licorice, some red fruit, buttery, bit spicy yeast, hint of tartness. Bit sweet, bit sour, bit malty bitter. Almost going to a flemish brown with lots of roast. Weird combo. 3.2 Original rating from 2002: I’m not that familiar with guinness or other stouts, but i figure this one is pretty complexed. Heavy taste, bitterness, but sweet bitterness. Burnt malts indeed. You probably have to learn to drink this stuff... 2.2

A modern style red ale that really isn't too bad - but the fact that it's brewed by Guinness frequently makes my inner voice ask: Sigmund, don't you REALLY want a Guinness instead? And, behold, the answer normally is YES!
Re-rate 260302: I'm lowering the aroma rating (bottled version, no nitro) - the aroma is strangely dominated by unpleasant, artificial candy notes. The flavour is still good, aftertaste acceptable.

Amber coloured. Sweetish, rather malty. Dryish finish with some bitterness. Not the most complex of beers, but not bad for a megabrew.

I too prefer the draught version (nitro can incl.)- but still the original is very, very good! Try it with bacon and eggs - makes you want to eat breakfast all day.

Rerate, 330 ml bottle (not nitrogen), at Tyrolen, Liseberg, Göteborg. Brewed in Ireland. ABV is 5.0%. Served at cellar temperature. Black colour, coarse head. Nice roasty aroma. Roasty flavour, moderate notes of coffee. Moderate bitterness in the finish.
