Aromas are dark malt, roast, leather and a little solvent. Flavors are somewhat similar nose, add in some odd though not unpleasant floral and a bit of coffee. Leahs sweet but balanced with decent carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden.

Roast and milk. Surprisingly smooth for something this high in alcohol. Roast, creamy consistency. Bitter boozy end, but not as much of the latter as you'd think. A light bit of salty caramel. Black pour with decent mocha head. Can.

12oz can from Tavour. Dark amber pour with a tight cap of creamy tan head. Malty aroma, pit fruit, sweet, maple. Taste comes in with a nice toasty maltiness, light sweetness, toffee. Creamy feel, apparent ABV. Exceptionally smooth for such a monstrous ABV.

12oz can from Tavour. Dark, cloudy amber, a few bubbles then flat. Aroma is boozy first, malty second, with sweet notes, caramel and orange. Taste is caramel and toffee, sweet malts, brown sugar, brown bread and that omnipresent alcohol warmth. Sugary finish with lots of heat.

Can pour from Valley Beverage, Sherman Oaks. It's an opaque black with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, 1/2-finger width beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee, dark chocolate/fudge, Irish cream, vanilla. Taste follows aroma with late almond. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, no sign of alcohol, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, delivers on everything. Good strength and aroma and flavor are well balanced. Sweet but not over the top.

Holy shit. Utterly mind-boggling Five Threads has made a 17% beer this smooth and drinkable. No trace of the ABV; rather, you get lovely R.I.S. veins of dark chocolate, anise, espresso, and cascara. Sweet, but never gets cloy; instead finishes with a firm, clingy bitterness and loads of unsweetened cacao. Really—this pint’s a brewing marvel.
