Description
This team of owner-operators was formed shortly after the group realized they all were after the same thing, just in different parts of the province. Brewer John Folinsbee was planning a brewery in Squamish, industry veteran Marc Roberts had his sights on Vancouver while entrepreneur Ben Reeder and builder Adam Steinberg were looking at brewing in the Cowichan Valley on Reeder’s hop farm. After tasting John’s recipes they decided to go all in and combine forces to build the 6000 square foot brewery, tasting room and kitchen in Squamish.

Gold, medium head. Sulphur nose, bit of butter. Medium bitterness, some pale malt. Definitely butter coming through, level 3 diacetyl. I guess.

Pale, bright, fruity hop nose, lightly herbal, medium malt, balanced bitterness. Interesting hop note. Good stuff

Opaque, hop burn on the palate. Not much expression here, which is too bas because I was hoping all these kiwi hops would pop but that just isn’t how it is with Backcountry.

Looks like they literally poured ice cream into a stout. Chocolate milk. Smells like imperial stout with vanilla, thankfully. But chocolate, tastes more like affogato. A concept that works better as a metaphor than taken literally. It has a chocolate milk kind of body, which is a turn off for me.

Dark brown. Balanced, light fruitiness, with toasty notes, light vanilla. Ok this is a vanilla-forward impy and I can see why they didn’t want to call it Turbo Lover because it’s not the same.

Dark brown, big coconuts, chocolate, decent base but probably needs more oomph, more sticky sugars.

Poured from 473mL can. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Dry-ish roast malt, cocoa powder and vanilla. Lacks complexity, but decent overall.

473ml can. Pours a cloudy orange red with a small, fizzy, short lived, pink head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet fruity aroma of grainy wheat, watermelon and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of grainy wheat, watermelon, lime, lactose and floral hops in a dry, tart finish. Light to medium body with a sticky, syrupy texture and average carbonation. Reminds me of jolly rancher candy. A bit sweet, but fun stuff.

473ml can. Pours a cloudy amber red with lots of floaties and a small, creamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of bready wheat malt, strawberry, vanilla and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, strawberry, orange, lactose, vanilla and floral hops in a slightly tart finish. Medium to full body with a thick, creamy, smooth texture and soft carbonation. More of a fruited ale, but it's juicy and delicious.
