Draught @ Faculty.
The vision for this was basically a lighter version of the Citra Pale. They also brewed it down in Ensenada, so there will be a version of this there as well. Golden colour with a thin head. Aroma has a fair bit of pale malt, maybe just a touch of caramelization. Soft body, lots of pale malt - bready, maybe just a touch doughy but pretty nice. Moderate bitterness underpins this...structured like a Budvar-style pilsner, though made with Citra. Pretty damn solid rendered of the pale lager.

On tap at Faculty, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out balsamic vinegar, sewer water and light toasted malt. Flavour is just all wrong, with tart balsamic, garbage, and acidity. Just a terrible idea and poorly executed. Bad.

On tap at Faculty, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out light lacto and a touch of citrus. Flavour is pleasant enough, with light lacto, citrus and floral notes. Soft and easy to drink. Meh.

Draft pour at Faculty. Found a beer that I could add, and sneak onto the site and rate, under the local powerful raters' noses. Checklist almost complete. Dark and dense brown pour. Cola tan fizz head. This beer doesn't even sound good to me, but I had to see for myself. Off aroma. Hard to describe. Balsamic, sure. And other things. Just off. Flavor is what they say it is. Balsamic front, with subtle flavors of plum like dark fruit, and even more hinted, chocolate like notes. Roasted linger. Dog treats. This was so far away from my type of flavor profile. Somebody out there thought this was a good idea. I don't want to be mean, but I highly disagree.

Draft pour at Faculty. A bright golden orange pour here. Safe beer to order here. I feel like Citra pales are generally solid. Harsh, dank hop nose to this. From a distance. Not the best invitation. Flavor redeems. A juicy grapefruit and other citrus all throughout. Flavorful, an d had a refreshing side. Late linger is overly bitter, and returns to a harsh bitter note. There is good and bad to this pale.

Draft pour at Faculty. Finally, a Vancouver rate that mcberko both hasnt had, and knows he hasn't had. Check that off my to do list while visiting! Cloudy golden orange pour. Thin, patchy head. A fresh impression on the aroma. Sweet fruit. Flavor is sweet citrus and tropical fruit, followed by a sturdy bitterness of the same make up. A light creaminess. Moderate grains, and moderate mixed fruit hops. Pretty decent SMaSH. Not quite in the wild SMaSH territory, but I also don't make the rules.

Draft pour at Faculty. First visit! Weird. A Vancouver beer with 4 ratings... cloudy golden yellow pour. Tart peach, orange slices, and some grains on the aroma. Big sour front to this. Straw grains, apricot and orange slices, both very sour. Lingering acidic, tart constant. Not bad.

Hazy and light amber, thin bubbly head. Nice biscuity malt, fruity hop note. Earthy bitterness, kind of grassy. So itβs a malty pale but old school cascade character. Decently made but boring concept. SNPA did this better 37 years ago.

So ESB with some whisky dumped in it? That's some cutting edge creativity right there. Amber, somewhat hazy, thin head. Yeasty nose, touch of bland whisky. Yeah. Bland whisky and bland yeasty bitter. This totally needed to be made.

On tap at Faculty, pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is all classic Odd Society gin, with tons of botanicals, nothing else left. Flavour is full of abrasive botanical notes, mint, and anise. Highly carbonated and rather difficult to drink due to the abrasiveness. Yet another OS gin BA beer I can't drink.
