More necrobeer from the Welton/Boundary archives. Amber-brown. Medium head. Mild smoke nose. It is showing some age in that it has a tartness to it. It still carries a nice smoke and caramel malt base. Okay I’m happy to try it, makes me want to schlep out to Greenwood, too.

Has a darker clear copper and minimal foam. Aroma is quite good smoke and I think it's intentional, modest molasses hints too. Taste is nice smokiness and soft molasses, maybe, and there's good lingering smokiness but it's also a little thin. It delivers, but doesn't gel extraordinarily well for a rauchbier, just good enough.

Poured with okay deeper blackish brown body and modest foam. Aroma is okay plum, some molasses. Tastes of grassy cocoa, vague hops, ends smooth anyway. It's a drinkable baltic porter but not a very interesting one.

Ok, so when Welton purchased Boundary they also bought all the beer. Every Boundary beer from Kelowna that I've had I actually bought from Welton. This was on tap at the Welton Arms. They're doing $5 for 20oz which is absolutely unheard of in BC these days. (It's the legal minimum so you would only see it for swill like Labatt Winchester, Lucky or Old Style Pilsner, and only at very downmarket establishments). It's got a bit of haze. Sort of dullish colour with a thin head. Tart, not much else...I mean it's got some fruitiness to it, I guess stone fruits. It's okay but a fairly straightforward sour thing. Sounds like this was a shot in the dark at an unflavoured Berliner, which actually makes it perfectly okay to pour at 2 years of age.

On tap at Welton. Soft body, and has a bit of a molasses note. Quite sweet, but that's not really not my issue (something like Okocim is just as sweet). The thing for me it it's light, like a regular porter. Doesn't taste lagered, though Boundary was a lager brewery. Anyway, not really hitting the style, and not good for what it is.

Draught @ Welton, so basically a posthumous release. I found this was a bit sticky, maybe some bubblegum but definitely phenols. Light amber-brown colour. Didn't note much rye character and it didn't seem super clean. Though, at this point, it would be getting long in the tooth.

Smells of decent deep chocolate and smooth coffee, has good head on a deep blackish brown body. Flavour is muddy sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth, it's drinkable but very simple.

Chocolate and some roast. Deep dark brown with a snake beige head. Soured dark malts and dark fruit.

Dark brown. The aroma has a lot of cocoa, touch of coffee on the nose. On the palate, however, it's sour. Like, just really sour. That's not what a schwarzbier should be, at all.
