Hazy and dullish pale. Not much head. On the nose, this has a nice orangey note. It’s simple but I like it. I can tell it’s low bitterness, but the issue here is the malts are off. It’s dry, and leaving that little sweetness in a brew that also lacks bitterness seems iffy to me – the alcohol takes a bigger place on the palate than it should. The hop fruitiness comes through in a good way, and helps to make this better, but there’s definitely something a bit off with the balance.

Has a pale purple colour, just a thin head. The aroma is a bit of haskap, the palate more vanilla and then haskap. It’s definitely sweet. That’s clearly the point but it’s still a bit jarring. But the balance of elements is fine. Okay, not my thing, like at all, but as a judge I can respect that they hit the mark for the base beer’s light pale malt note and the interplay between the adjuncts, especially with a touch of tartness from the front. I’d score it better in a competition than for me as a guy on Ratebeer.

Dark brown. No head though. Chocolatey, a bit thin on the malts, definitely some coffee character in there.

Alchemy's take on a super saison has a dull tan colour with a thin head. Lots of esters, some phenols, too. It’s a bit over the top, but there’s also a dash of floral hop, which I presume is Amarillo.

So this slightly hazy DH pilsner has a bit of a dull look to it. Thin head. Touch grassy aroma. On the palate, similar. Some fruity notes that speak to non-traditional (tropical) hops - but I can see why Calista is a choice worth making. Just comes across in a funny way. The malts are clunky, and leave too much sweetness in the finish. Not hitting. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you can’t dry hop your way out of it.

This is a bit murky, with nondescript hops. Decent bitterness but the malts aren’t all that well-developed and it ends up coming across clumsy.

Way too faint maple on the nose, has good brown body with some modest foam. Flavour is soft creamy maple, nothing else, very sugary maple in fact. Mouthfeel has crisp carbonation and there's a maple aftertaste but nothing else lingers. There's nice maple character here but nothing else.

Smells of funky chalky hops and grain, has okay modestly cloudy gold body and some mellow foam. Flavour is reasonably bright armpitty hops, sweet chalkiness, fermented pineapple. Mouthfeel is okay and full but there's a nasty armpit aftertaste. There are some good elements here but it does seem muddled and overly harsh.

Nice hops on the nose, good grain, some mellow sweetness. Has very nice creamy foam and a clear lightish gold body. Flavour is nice lager hops, soft lager sweetness to compliment. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp. It's not bad at all, some nice clean work here.

The aroma is soft deep biscuit, some mellow brown sugar. There's weak watery brown liquid to look at and no foam. Flavour is okay biscuit and brown sugar. Mouthfeel has okay carbonation but is too thin, the wateriness permeates everything. It's not too bad but feels paint by numbers.
