650 ml bottle. Pours a copper color with light head. Aromas of bittering hops and toasted malts. Flavos of same with maybe some early mango. Not getting the other tropical promises. Pretty much homebrew.

Amber-brown colour, with a thick head. The aroma is smokey, but it's pretty sour on the palate. Not much hop. Lemony and a bit bracing, really, so you can't even pretend it's a happy accident and turned into a grod.

Dullish amber colour. Thin head. The aroma comes off as more of a malt-accented English IPA, the way an American would understand the term English IPA. On the palate, it's more of a tart amber ale. I'd say I was surprised, but I am not surprised. That seems to be how Howl rolls, where everything is some interpretation of gruit. There's just a mild bitterness and no hop expression...did they use hemlock needles for all the bitterness and flavouring? Seems so. Anyway, it's an interesting beer to study, but whether I'm going to want a second round of tart amber, uncomplex gruit is another matter altogether.

Ugly dark amber. Yeasty aroma, and it's not bright in the least. Medium bitterness, and there is a bit of that fir tip thing here, but it is a bit...not great.

Pale amber, bright. Thin head. Big, complex herbal aroma. You look at the list of ingredients and pick one out each time, but it's always a different one. Also, today I learned that wild bergamot is a member of the mint family and not related to the bergamot orange from Earl Grey tea. Tart, massively herbal, very expressive. This is a herbal cluster...balanced but huge, and as with on the nose you get a different herb with each sip. The acidity is lactic and sharp...not the funkadelic nature of Two Druids, aka the best gruit ever, but it's still impressive. I know they kind of always have a gruit on, and that makes me happy.

Poured from the tap. Hazy copper with small beige head. Mostly just a generic kettle sour, ginger and lemongrass and barely detectable, super feint, bland. Meh.
