Small to medium dirty-white head, fed by fine but lively pearling in metallic chromate-yellow beer. Faint ammonium smell upon opening, then dry sweet malts. Some fruity aromas indeed (fresh peach, lemon, honey,...) but as to hops... Grasping bitter flavour in the taste, the hops are there, now, superposed on distinct corn flakes. Quite metallic finish. Light body, well-carbonated - lively but not fizzy. Pinch of saltiness in the aftertaste. The difference experienced between nose and flavour proves an adagio I’ve long cherished: UK or EU aroma hops, as Goldings or Saaz, are actually unsuited to be used in very large quantities, as they get too easily metallic. If agreable bitterness AND aroma are needed, use USA C-hops or NZL ones. Txs to DeanS!

Cask at Standing Order (JDW) Edinburgh ... Black with thin tan head ... nice roast coffee malt nose ... big coffee roast with a low deep bitterness ... light charcoal ... maybe just a bit too much bitterness for me ... but pretty good... nice and smooth

Cask, Kings Arms, Salford. Clearish gold with a thin white head. Fragrant citrus hop aroma. Fresh n’ juicy fruit flavour with good balanced hoppage into a drying bitter finish. Tasty stuff.

Cask at the Gig House (JDW), Wokingham. Deep chestnut brown with a compact cream head; sweet malt aroma; earthy malt flavours with licorice, caramel and toffee, but not over sweet; a sharp long-lasting coffee finish. Very good.

Cask-conditioned at JDW in Whitehall 14/02/08. Near black with reddish undertones but no head. Big chocolate aroma with some strong coffee in the back ground. Flavour of bitter chocolate, with plenty of roasted malt and a long, drawn-out bitter finish. Very good.

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto, JDW, Folkestone. Very deep ruby/brown colour with lasting beige head. The barman actually looked embarrassed about charging me £2.10 for this when he knew that GKIPA was on sale for 99p. Choc and coffee lovely aroma. Good condition if served a little cold, Decent coffee after flavour. Really quite impressed although I shouldn’t be as this is now a consistent brewer on the UK scene. Decent coffee choc beer with some charring. Fine beer.

Cask, The Crescent, Salford. Darkish mahogany colour with a medium off white head. Sweet, glace cherry aroma. Flavour had a slight sourness, and was not too sickly overdosed with cherry as might be expected, mixed with a balanced maltiness. Drying, gently bitter finish. Enjoyable.
