Description
Focused on the Craft

Ruse Brewing is an artisanal brewery inspired by Portland's creative community & culture. These attributes are what inspire us to create our art: craft beer.

We brew small batch, flavorful, and thoughtfully-crafted beers. We work with local artists and musicians to design beers paired with their art for concept events and beer releases. Our community is a major inspiration for our company vision, we will do what it takes to be involved and support other businesses and organizations.

Crisp bronze and copper coloured body with a fairly clear glow and a thin single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of resin, flowers, grass, citrus, malt and a dash of hay with some light alcohol noticeable. Medium-bodied; Super deep hop notes show at first with a strong citrus and astringent note of flowers, grass, a lot of resin and showing some alcohol as well as a surprisingly balanced malt character. Aftertaste shows a bunch of grapefruit, some pure orange and curacao notes with a deep, lightly earthy malt profile along with some sweetness from the citrus fruits, that all end with the astringent and alcohol notes and some light medicine. Overall, pungent throughout with a huge mosaic and citrus profile that presents a robust and powerful character throughout with a good balance. Great to try - especially fresh from the West Coast! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from BottleCraft in San Diego (Little Italy), California on 25-February-2020 for US$5,27 sampled at home in Washington on 08-March-2020.

On tap at Ruse, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is full of Hersey's kisses upfront, with soft vanilla and dry oats. Flavour is full of liquid milk chocolate, with gentle oats, and a little vanilla. Really tastes like liquid Hersey's kisses. Very good.

On tap at Ruse, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of bright coffee upfront, with little else to speak of - just vibrant coffee really. Flavour is loaded with intense coffee, with gentle cocoa and just enough sweetness. Almost no bitterness, must robust coffee. Excellent.

On tap at Ruse, pours a pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma reveals lots of brett, wild yeast in general, gentle vinous notes, and lightly acidic peaches. Flavour is full of lightly acidic peaches upfront, with some gentle phenols, wild yeast, and seltzery notes. A little too phenolic. It's pleasant but this doesn't seem optimally dialled in.

On tap at Imperial Bottle Shop & Taproom - Alberta, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma reveals toasted hazelnuts, gentle bourbon, light cocoa and vanilla beans. Flavour is loaded with intense toasted hazelnuts upfront, immediately followed by chocolate, and accentuated by the bourbon. Those hazelnuts are beautiful. Lovely construction here.
