WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE A HOBBY WAY TOO FAR…
Back in 2007 Graham Sherman met his buddy and Tool Shed co-founder Jeff while working on Government / Military IT infrastructure and satellite communication projects throughout Afghanistan. They connected over a love for taking their hobbies WAY too far and Tool Shed Brewing is the natural result of two good home brewing friends that took their favourite hobby further than most.

From its inception in Graham’s back yard tool shed on a basic 5 gallon home-brew system, Tool Shed Brewing Company has always been destined for great things. Today Graham and the amazing team at Tool Shed bring an obsessive love for great craft beer and a high level of geekery to the craft of making it!

Everyone grew up being told to find something you love to do, and then find a way to make a career of it! Almost every home-brewer who’s taken that first sip of their VERY OWN, home-brewed creation, has experienced that contemplative smirk break across their face as they enjoy their craft, all the while, fantasizing about quitting their job in favour of a lifetime of bringing great beer to like minded people.

As Tool Shed Brewing continues to grow we naturally continue to run into more like-minded people with the same passion and are building our brewery around these great folks at the core.

473 ml can. BBD 23072021. Pours amber with full head. Aromas of doughy malts and pine resin. Flavors of bready malts, pine resin and a bit of bitter tea. Hops may have aged, but pleasant enough

On tap. Pours a clear straw colour with a small, fizzy, short lived, off-white head that leaves spotty lacing. Mild aroma of grainy pale malt, banana, lemon, coriander, Belgian yeast and floral hops. Sweet flavour of grainy pale malt, banana, lemon peel, Belgian yeast, coriander, black pepper and floral hops in a dry finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Can from High Point, Vancouver
Hazy golden colour, small head. Old style, but not excessive, the malt has a very good biscuity accent, it has a good body but not much sweetness; the hop is a bit resinous, and the bitterness is robust.
It's quite good; I realize it's actually very old (11 Jul 2019, screw distributor and store), but I think it held up decently.

Can. Amber with a dense cm of near white head. Aroma of butterscotch, gentle citrus and pine. And so it tastes. Quite sweet with hop aromatics as a seasoning, medium bitterness. A bit timid and rather old fashioned but a harmonious drink.

On tap at Henry's Pub, Sheraton Cavalier, Calgary. Clear medium copper with a small off white head leaving tight lace. Nose is light caramel, citrus, pine. Light sweet caramel under a big resinous bitterness. Mouth is medium slick with average carbonation and a long bitter finish. 7/3+/6+/4-/13+

Flat Cap Stout - Port Barrel from Tool Shed Brewing Company

On tap at Tool Shed, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out dry woody wine barrels and earthy notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of dry port wine, gentle roast, and earthy notes. Dry and vinous, with a somewhat soy sauce-like element. Not overly complex but I like the port character.

On tap at Tool Shed, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out gently smoky whiskey barrels upfront, with medium toasted malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of smoky whiskey upfront, with medium toasted malt. Smoky and pleasant, but not as deep or complex as I'd have liked.

Star Cheek IPA - Bourbon Barrel from Tool Shed Brewing Company

On tap at Tool Shed, pours a murky dull orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy bourbon notes, subdued resinous hops, and a bit of perfume. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of bourbon and vanilla upfront, followed by subdued resinous hops, and earthy notes. I never quite understand why IPAs are barrel aged, but this is pleasant.

On tap at Tool Shed, pours a cloudy dull yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out pithy passionfruit upfront, with a very juicy character. Flavour is very juicy, with lots of fresh passionfruit upfront. Not too sweet, with a nice dryness. Juicy and highly crushable.

On tap at Tool Shed, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out earthy, toasted malt upfront, with a touch of dry cocoa. Flavour is a bit briny, with toasted malt and earthy notes. A bit briny and thin. Meh.
