Can, not hazy at first but it gets there near the bottom of the can. Color is a little more orange than pale. Big foamy white head fades rapidly. Nose is this weird hoppy perfume laced with bananas. First taste is not as bitter as I was expecting. Yes that bananas thing is also there, quite prominent above the hops. I've done about a dozen banana beers before and this is the worst example of a banana brew I've tasted. Not in the same league as Chapeau Banana nor Shubrew banana. And that Eagle Banana Bread beer is far superior. In the middle the bitter hops start to come thru a little but I don't think it rises up to the same level of most domestic IPAs. Probably more like a stronger APA. Maybe it seems muted because of the fruit flavors. Oh well, OK for a tick, but would not buy again. In the end the finish becomes mouthcoating and somewhat rude.

Panda, courtesy of SHIG, pours with a clear brown body that has copper hued edges and supports light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a fair load of nuttiness as well as lesser amounts of malts and then a hint of brown sugar. The taste delivers smooth sweet nuttiness and sweet malts leading to a wafer thin layer of spicy maple. The malts remain smooth and sweet into the finish and pick up a light boozy burn creating improved balance. Fun beer.

Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 16/03/24. Mahogany brown with a beige cap that veers edgewards. Nose is a little thin for the ABV, dusty fruits, brown sugar dusting, toffee, nutty. Taste comprises toffee fudge, maple syrup, dark malts, cocoa spattering, toasted brown sugar, caramelised pecans. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Okay balance for a maple syrup number but lacks some depth for the ABV.

Pounder can for a buck off the clearance rack. Can't read the blurred date code: 012721? From 2021? No, can't be. WTF? Also there is no description on the can, or in their publicity for this beer, to tell me what makes it different than the rest of the DDH series. Yea, its just a big fat IPA, that's all. Oh yea, its hazy too. Color is as pictured. Decent white head. Nose is mild fruity hop perfume. Yes, terribly hop bitter but there seems to be a little fruit on the back end. Bitterness rides on the end of each gulp, and in the middle the bitter hops start to build. Big nasty undesirable bitterness makes this hard to take, just like any other terribly on style IPA out there. Gottah be a gahzillion of them and they all practically taste the same. Decent amount of cutting carbonation in there keeps it from being totally mouthcoating muck. It also does not exhibit any of that astringent rookie brewer attitude as well. I've tasted more ruder IPA and this fruity thing in the background keeps me thinking; at least its not the bottom of the barrel for a macro pale lager lover.

Black with a large foamy brown head. Strong anilla and chocolate aroma. Flavor was boozy with sharp vanilla, chocolate, lactose, cinnamon and almost cherry. Very long finish. Creamy body

OK, from a can I pour this into a big steelers mug and it does look like and smell like root beer, go figger. I'm gonna try to watch that steeler game on sunday at 4. First taste of this, tho, reminds me it's a beer, a flavored beer. I think its mild unsweetened root at first but then I start to think this is penetrating my brain. Look on the label and yes, it is stronger than your fathers root beer, it just doesn't taste like it. The total sweetness on the root is missing and you are left with unsweetened root. But: Its plain old lager, which isn't bad in itself, and root beer flavoring mired in. They say it's sweet. I would say no. This is not a soda pop, its a beer. You know it when you drink it. If you are looking for a mug of root beer, or that other stupid brew 'not your fathers root beer' ; you'll be keenly disappointed. There, you have it.
