Description
The building known as the “Old Brewery” was first completed in 1898 and was used to brew Petoskey Sparkle beer until 1915. According to a 1973 article in the Petoskey News, the Petoskey Brewing Company was originally owned by Frank and Garrett Fochtman, A. Bremmeyr and John Zaiger, who also acted as the Brewmaster.

Since closing in 1915, the brewery building has served as retail shops, as warehousing and perhaps even as a goat barn. It wasn’t until 2012, under the new ownership of and complete renovation by Patrick Dowd and Lou Gostinger, that beer once again flowed within the walls of the “Old Brewery”.

Please come visit and witness a part of great Northern Michigan history.

Can to Belgian tulip.
Appearance: ruddy dark amber color with a two finger white foamy head, dissipated slowly to leave subtle lace
Aroma: candied dark fruits, Belgian malts, dark toastiness, Belgian chocolate, semi-spicy Belgian yeastiness
Flavor: Belgian sweet & spicy through the prior noted aromas, Belgian malty and semi-sweet aftertaste
Texture: light to medium bodied, between sessionable and possibly being a sipper, semi-dry and semi-sweet Belgian malty finish
Overall: seems more of one of those catch all beers that could be classified as a Belgian dark strong ale rather than a true Belgian dubbel but hey, I believe I could have this again and this might be a worthy beer to have with a cigar.
