Description
The building known as the “Old Brewery” was first completed in 1898 and was used to brew Petoskey Sparkle beer until 1915. According to a 1973 article in the Petoskey News, the Petoskey Brewing Company was originally owned by Frank and Garrett Fochtman, A. Bremmeyr and John Zaiger, who also acted as the Brewmaster.

Since closing in 1915, the brewery building has served as retail shops, as warehousing and perhaps even as a goat barn. It wasn’t until 2012, under the new ownership of and complete renovation by Patrick Dowd and Lou Gostinger, that beer once again flowed within the walls of the “Old Brewery”.

Please come visit and witness a part of great Northern Michigan history.

12oz can c/o Ryan. Loud, quick fading, soda-like carbonation..no head at all after 15 seconds. Enjoyable flavor profile, not too many brewers go after a Belgian Amber. Body is lacking compared to an actual Belgian beer. OK.

Canned 7/11/24, drunk 10/26/24. Clear auburn-amber. Medium-sized head, falls to edges quickly. Initial nose is, perhaps, a bit metallic, reserved and earthy. But just as with the flavor, it opens up considerably with warming and breathing, softening and adding body. By the end of my glass, it was pretty malty, clean, spicy, quite reasonably done, actually. I'm guessing a lot of these ratings were cold and quick with a small sample size, not allowing it to warm and breathe.

Can from Jeff. Thanks buddy. Drank from the can. Sweet notes of date, raisin and plum with some clove underneath. Fairly sweet on the palate, but a little drier on the finish. A bit thin and watery.
