16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/20/2017. Pours lightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, herbal, grass, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.7%. Overall this is a delicious NE IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Nicely juicy, fruity, and tropical; nice malt backbone with no residual sweetness. Hits all the right notes for the style, even with the lack of haze. A very enjoyable offering.

This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a fairly dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at an even pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had a strong nutty sweet crispness followed by some rich roasty coffee beans and some milk chocolate notes. Light sweet grains with some cake-like quality came around.
The flavor yielded to the sweetness of it all pulling the grains towards the cake-like quality and then touching the coffee bean roast. Light aftertaste of the cake and then some of the coffee bean. Finished in the same way.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good brown ale, I dig the idea of putting donuts in a brown ale, but this didn’t necessarily smell or taste like donuts to me. I’d still have this again.

The appearance was a black color with a half finger’s worth of white foamy head. Dissipated at a nice pace to leave some light stringy lace.
The aroma had light toast, earthy hops, light citrusy hops and some leather.
The flavor blended slightly between the hop bitterness to the sweetness of the malts. However, it did slightly leaning towards the bitter side throughout the consumption. Mostly a toast-like aftertaste flowing into the finish in the same way.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fairly sliding damp sort of texture along my tongue. Carbonation felt fine and the ABV felt good as well.
Overall, pretty nice black IPA that I would have again.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-hazy golden color with a slim cap of a little white head. No lace.
The aroma had some sweet corn to cake-like qualities flowing into some sweet raspberry tones.
The flavor was basically the same with a light tartness coming out ever so lightly. Wafer-like/animal cracker-like sweet aftertaste rolling into the finish fairly nice.
The feel was just a tad under medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Tartness wasn’t distracting. Felt fairly smooth from the sweet cracker.
Overall, neat way of reinventing a style that isn’t entirely loved. I’d probably do this one again. Thanks Mike.

The appearance was a murky red to brown sort of color with a film of a little white head. Barely any lace.
The aroma had a blend of sweet cherries and cocoa powder. Light dough on the back end.
The flavor brought out some of the tartness from the cherries to blend with the cocoa powder and sweet parts of the cherries. Not much of an aftertaste but a semi-sticky dry cocoa powder finish was there.
The feel was just a touch under medium bodied with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty nice brown ale keeping the arena of brown ales a bit different. I’d have again.

The appearance was a fairly dark burnt orange color with just a little white cap of a head. Trickling spotty lace.
The aroma had some sweet to roasty nuts, dark bread and a light grassy hoppiness.
The flavor was mainly malty sweet leaning into the breadiness. Light bready aftertaste and finish.
The palate was between light and medium bodied with a pretty good sessionability about it. Good carbonation and ABV.
Overall, mostly a good dunkel lager that I’d have again.

The appearance was a dark brown color with a thin cap of a little white head. Sly lace.
The aroma sprinkled some brown sugar over top of some dried caramel/toffee malts, some lightly roasted nuts, a little bit of earthiness and had some light maple syrup sweetness at the end.
The flavor definitely was sweet through the prior mentioned aromas. And it definitely had an aftertaste was pretty smooth. Quick little sweet maple/brown sugar finish.
The feel was about medium bodied, maybe a touch under with a decent carbonation about it. ABV felt appropriate and had a very smooth touch along my tongue. Earthy hops seemed to also level out any possible cloying effects.
Overall, nicely done brown ale that the maple seemed fairly controlled in which is what I believe was nice. Glad to see a maple brown ale not be cloying - kudos to Petoskey Brewing.

Crisp brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall just tan head. Aroma of rich caramel, toffee, bunches of chocolate, a hint of coffee and a pungent bit of grain. Medium-bodied; Strong chocolately flavour, like a light donut (really) complete with the wheat and grain that produce the pastry and a subdued, yet noticeable alcohol and toastiness. Aftertaste is rich and relatively simple, but showing some nice flavours with the grain and chocolate the strongest, but there are some other flavours of toffee, cereal and a little alcohol. Overall, a nice and flavourful beer that holds true to the name on the can and shows relatively well, especially for the style, which I’m not usually a fan of. Worth getting if you can find it, especially if you like the style! I sampled this 50 cL can purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 10-December-2016 for US$2,19 sampled at home in Washington on 19-February-2017.
