Description
New Beginnings
2017 – A fresh start. Charles Wells sells Havelock St brewery and most of our beer brands to Marston’s, signalling a move away from higher-volume national sales and a renewed focus on specialty ale and lager brands to delight modern beer fans. The deal also provided the resources needed to begin designing the new home of our dreams - now known as Brewpoint (which began brewing October 2020).
While Marston's acquired the rights to brew brands like Bombardier, the family retained the "Charles Wells" and "Charlie Wells" brand names.
Wells & Co. is Born
2019 – Charles Wells rebrands as Wells & Co., reflecting the diversity of our modern business. The move away from Charles Wells was not a decision we took lightly, but with significant investment taking place in our pub estates and a new brewery on the way capable of producing a range of beer styles unimaginable to us just ten years ago, the time felt right to make a statement of confidence about our future direction as a company.

Bottled. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes malg and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and straw, leading to a bitter finish.

F: medium, white, average retention. C: gold, bit hazy. A: malty, herbal, grassy, bit citrus, bit bready. T: malty, light citrus, grassy, herbal, dry decent bitterness, easy drinkable, light to medium body, medium carbonation, this is not bad for lager with decent hoppy tones, enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Auchan Market in Luxembourg.

Bottle at home, thanks to Dave, 20/04/18. Clear golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is muted citric peel, bread dough, biscuit, straw, toffee. Taste comprises orange rind, biscuit, caramel, light citric fruit, grains. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with rentrained hop bitterness. Sub par for style ... comes across more like and ESB.

Bottle at home from Morrisons. Drunk while eating a large spicy pizza, watching "Expanse" on Netflix while the wife was out. A good pour, a fruity nose and a good head. The taste was light fruity hops with some balancing bitterness. A reasonable mouthfeel that resulted in a light and frivolous beer that was perfect with the food. Nothing special, just nice. Half-way through I had a sip and got a massive hit of peach which was quite surprising.

Can, 2 days out of code. Gold with a white head. Aroma of honeyed biscuit, lemon, flowers, Tropical Opal Fruits. Very sweet with lots of fruit but bitterness struggles to get through. Hints of Butter Menthol at the end. Interesting but didn't work for me.

Bottle from Asda, Ipswich. Pours golden with a frothy white head. Aroma of hop, malt, fruit, caramel and grass - not particularly appealing. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Odd, vaguely sour metallic finish. Not impressed.
