On tap at the Yard House, Houston. An almost clear one, dark golden to pale amber in color and with a minimal sized off-white head. Lots and lots of citrus peel and pine cones in the aroma, resins and a little malty touch and some alcohol on the nose. The flavor has a lot of bitterness, still not too much, with pink grapefruit, pine cones and a generic citrus flavor. Some malty flavors too. It’s lightly warming on the palate, full bodied and with a nice carbonation level. Lasting bitter finish with pink grapefruit and pine cones. Sure delicious this one, with a really nice balance. Well, it’s mostly on the hoppy side, and its also quite dry, making it dangerously easy drinkable. 140516

Palate cleanser thanks to Nimbleprop at Epic Sour Tasting. Black pour with good head and lacing. Citrus hops and roast malt. Medium bitter finish. Nice beer, especially nice with bitter contrast to all the sour. Thick, creamy and slighly oily consistency.

Bottle shared at DC Annual Epic Sour Tasting, thanks Nimbleprop! Dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of sweet fruit, roast. Tasting notes of roast, dark fruit, floral notes. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

Bottle. Poured a medium brown color with a light off-white head. Aroma is notes of dark malts, some earthy and a little bit of hops. Flavor was dark, roasty malts, some light pine, earth. Tasty.

On tap at the Hay Merchant. It’s an almost clear one, amber in color and with a dense, finger-thick beige head leaving lacings. Caramel, vanilla, a faint booze hint, some dried fruits, pine cones and citrus peel in the aroma. It’s sweet on the palate, with caramel, dried fruits, hints of vanilla, some citrus peel, pine cones and perhaps not enough bitterness A little dark chocolate touch too. Lightly warming, full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated. Sweet and bitter finish. I’m normally not a fan of barrel ageing DIPA’s, but this is really well done. 140515

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a really dark body, more or less black, and topped by a dense, beige head of finger-thick size. It’s roasted and chocolatey on the palate, with some tar and charcoal hints. Cellar notes. It’s faintly warming on the palate, full-bodied and soft, with a pleasant carbonation level. Mostly dry, but there’s some sweetness in the flavor. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, and some dried fruit notes. Lasting roasted finish. Sure a nice one, but in a strange way I’m bored by it. Even though it’s a quite complex one. 140515

On tap at the Yard House, Houston. A lightly hazy, light amber colored beer with a small light beige head. It’s pretty sweet on the nose, fruity and alcoholic with a touch of oak less the vanilla. Some peach and pine cone hints. Some vinous hints too. It’s a bit too sweet and alcoholic in the mouth I think, but there’s actually enough bitterness to deal with it. The alcohol and wine shines through, as is the fruity, citrusy hops. It’s sure full bodied, with a nice carbonation level, and a bit too much alcohol warmth. Lasting warming and fruity finish with a vinous touch. A nice one, but too sweet and alcoholic I think. 140514

Aroma: The nose is Belgian yeast and spice, floral notes, and some fruity notes as well
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a white head and some fairly heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, lots of spice, yeast, and some light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a tingly feel, average carbonation, and a mid-dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid, spice-forward Saison. It was no surprise to me that Karbach handled this style well, as I feel like they do an excellent job with most of their beers.
