16 ounce can. Number one with a bullet. Translucent cola brown color. Rocky bone-colored head. Nice clinging lace. Roasted malt aroma has earthy, fruity notes. Hints of chocolate, toffee and coffee. Flavor follows nose. Roasty, earthy and mildly sweet. Notes of tangy fruit on backend. Interesting.

11.2 oz bottle poured. No bottle date, and no idea where I got this, but based on ratings I have to think this was bottled mid 2020. We'll see if I end up closing the rating book on this one. Dark and dense black pour, minimal head. Toasty malt nose with a sturdy dose of whiskey notes. Dry mouthfeel, whiskey and oak, with a faint cocoa. Really is whiskey dominated in flavor. Pretty hot for a modest tick or two above double digits. Late lingering caramel, barrel, and smooth whiskey. Pretty good overall.

Bottle drunk 6/20/23. Clear amber with a bit of cherry-chestnut. Small, dark beige head slowly fades to ring. Nose is mellow bourbon, nutty, savory, minimally spicy. Cherry, orange are noted but neither are overdone and do complement the overall picture tastefully. No booze, but a healthy bit of vanilla. Soft, malty, bourbon-forward but absolutely mellow with round, nutty, caramel and vanilla edges and no bite to it or sharp alcohol. Cherry and orange round out the corners. Love that bourbon - say what you will about Guinness/Diageo - but this is done well and it's pretty obviously suffering from its poor pedigree according to craft beer drinkers.

Whiskey and malt. Some caramel. Florals. Not as bad as i assumed it would be. Sweet boozy finish. Golden orange pour. Ok head. Tap at Tap99.

Red caramel with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly. Sweet and malty with molasses, sugar, cherry, strong booziness and a vague herbal note. Long boozy finish. Full bodied.

Cocktail inspired beers? Generally I like them. This evening I have a 12 oz bottle from Guinness attempting that. My globe glass is ready and waiting for the pour, an amber going into orange liquid finished by a skim of taupe foam. A very fruity smell, certainly, along with cake and vanilla. The taste is interesting, I get a barley wine effect mostly and there is also orange peel, malt, grain, a bit of caramel and bourbon. A little heat is generated giving it a touch of a cocktail impression. Not a bad drink but I think Founders does the cocktail thing better.
