Description

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours hazy darkish brown with a few bubbles. Aromas of darkish fruit and brandy. Near full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, chocolate and brandy with lightly astringent wood. Mouth smacking. Excellent. A very good sipper.

330ml bottle bought at Bacchus Cornelius in Brugge more than a year ago. Pours brown muddy waters. Beige head, spotty lacing. Sweet brown caramel malts to the nose. The flavour is made up by sweet spiced malts, dried fruity notes and sugar. Sweet ending with alcohol warmth. Full bodied. Ok, a bit unvaried, though. Shared with Finn (Tromsø, 21.06.2012).

Pours a copper colour with intense carbonation. Some acidic citric notes in the aroma. Very strong carbonation in the mouth. A hint of mustard is just about tracable. Although this one has a malty, sticky sweetness the texture is quite thin and watery.

There are many, many things you could call this beer and have it turn out alright, but if this is an imperial stout, then somebody really screwed the pooch. Pours amber-red, not even the color of a brown ale, much less a stout. Smells super-fruity with a pilsnerish undertone. Weird as shit for the implied style. If I didn’t know better, I’d think the gentlemen at Brouwerij Smisje slapped a trendy label on a subpar dark Belgian Ale and hoped us stupid Americans would just pass off the beer’s inconsistencies as Belgian flair. But calling this beer a stout is like calling Bud Platinum a barleywine. Mild bitterness, no roasted, chocolate, or coffee notes, and an offputting sweetness that mixes with that reoccurring pilsner note. I dare you to blind taste this beer and guess it’s an Impy Stout.

Bottle thx to benzai. Hazy orange, with a huge, active head. Smells yoghurt, herbs, yeast and some overripe fruit. Tastes overripe fruit, boring and just meh. Too much carbo, medium body.

33cl bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Hazy murky orange color, huge incredibly high carbonated white to off-white head that lasts for quite awhile. Smell fruits, lightly yoghurt, orange peel, lightly herbs, light to moderately yeasty. Taste malts, orange peel, fruits, lightly sweet. High carbo, low to medium body.

Cloudy chocolate brown beer. Huge foamy biscuit coloured head. Soft malt nose, hint of smoke. Fresh tasty malt, quite fruity for the style and with a little milk chocolate and a pleasing amount of smoke. Finishes with more of the same. Interesting RIS, not rich, thick and sumptuous but wins with it’s dark fruits and chocolate.
