Bottle @ home, thanks to Polk. Pours hazy orange brown with a fast fading white. Aroma is wheat, light spicy and light acidic. Taste is wheat, spicy, sweet fruit, banana, slightly sour. Medium body, average carbonation. 170512

Clear deep yellow beer, nice creamy white head, unstable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, bit of yeast, sweet peaches, touch of exotic fruits. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty fruity, little sweet, citrus, sweet malts, bit sugary, ripe peaches. Aftertaste: little sweet, still fruity, canned peaches in syrup, gentle bitterness.

Bottle 330ml.Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, dusty, oxidide notes, old malt, calvados, licorice - candy sweet, light wood. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration, malty, light alcohol. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120316]

Dumpy 33cl brown bottle, cap claimed a best before date of 02/2014, poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru badged tulip during 11/2011: suited it nicely. Obtained from De Bierboom, Brugge: Euro 2.60, a bargin! Cloudy, murky and dull dirty brown/deep red in colour, huge foaming crown on top: no sediment left the bottle (I think). Impressive lacing as the beer level dropped. Only Belgian beers smell like this, those yeast aromas just don’t come from anywhere else: it’s as if you’re wafting them into your nose from a fermenting vessel. The taste sharp and semi vinegarous (might have been a bit young?), great tartness to it, without pulling your cheeks in though. Malts in the flavour, something is bittering it as well, most likely hops, but you never really know in Belgium do you? Couldn’t drink this all night, but really enjoyed the bottle I’ve reviewed. I’m not a Belgian sour lover, this is getting towards that area but isn’t a Lambic style in any way, just on the sour side of the sweetness scale.

33cl Dumpy bottle, well in date, poured into a ’Hoegaarden Grand Cru’ badged stemmed tulip. The sediment stayed in the base of the bottle, so the glass held a dull golden bodied beer with a large white head on top: loads of carbonisation bubbles rising through the almost clear body. Belgian yeasty aroma, some sweetness in there too. The taste is a little too clean and clinical to me, no honest farmhouse feel to the flavours, no bits to get into, not your regular Belgian craft/country brewed beer at all. This is obviously well made and lovingly cared for, but it defeats what I love about going to Belgium, finding and bringing back beers that challenge the tastebuds and enhance my beer enjoyment.

33 Cl bottle taken in the back room of ‘tBrugs Beertje (through and past the toilets): Tom was looking after everybody back there this evening in Dec 2011. The body was a hazy orange colour, on top a large off-white head. Yeasty, citrusy hopped nose; tried to find pumpkin, but failed. The taste was yeast, bread, sweetness and grapefruit flavours, tried to find pumpkin but failed; maybe that was the sweetness I got? The beer is a little too alcoholic for its own good, being to powerful compared to the depth of flavours and body; it is found to easily and tarnishes the overall mouth feel and tasting experience.

Bottle @ Odense Late March Tasting, 2012. Pours dark ruby amber with a small creamy white head. Nose is yeast, spices and vague whisky. Sweet and inviting. Sweet flavor with a warmth from alcohol, mild -very mild peated whisky, fruit , caramel and alcohol. Sweet - yet balanced and enjoyable. Hides the alcohol well.

Odense spring time specialties night at Dolle. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, raisins, peppery spice. Sweet brown sugar and caramel flavour with spice, dried fruits, and a touch of boozy alcohol.
