Description

light high acidity. Lots of roastiness but tons of sweetness. Some cherry notes with chocolate. Not so well balanced

Bottle purchased and consumed at Ebeneezer’s Pours a murky dark brown that I made worse with a vigorous pour. I had trouble pouring this as the carbonation level was quite high. Aroma is spicy Belgian yeast, with some roast and chocolate hidden in the back. The chocolate come through a little better as she warms. Taste does follow the smell. Mouth feel thick and creamy. Great brew once I warmed up to it, or once it warmed up to me or whatever.

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, pale golden colour with a big and blond foamy head. Yeasty and distinctively citrus-fruity and slightly zesty aroma with pale malt and herbal, spicy hops. Bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Pale malt character with grainy spots, notes of citrus and herbal, slightly peppery hops; dry-ish and moderately bitter and herbal hoppy finish with subtle fruity notes and an astringent aftertaste. 18.I.11

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, amber to brown colour with a beige and tall foamy head. Moderately sweet and yeasty berry-fruity aroma with notes of cara-malt, chocolate and a mildly spicy touch. Sweet and slightly sour-fruity flavour, medium bodied at most with a soft carbonation. Slightly toasted malty base with a tinge of chocolate and fruity notes; moderately sweet toasty malty and mildly fruity finish with liquorice spice and a well-masked alcohol. Another Belgian interpretation of the style that fails. Otherwise a drinkable brew. 02.I.11

Bottle from cracked kettle cons 2011-01-04 AR: yeasty, overripe citrus fruits (on the the edge to be rotten) AP: hazy amber, 4 cm high fizzy bone white head, slowly dimishing leaving some bits of foam F: strong yeasty flavor - hard to detect anyting else, to much. Great bitterness, black peppar spiced pumpkin soup, mucho dry finish, not my kind of brew, perhaps a bit infected???

Bottle at Chriso NY 2010 Tasting. Sour barrel aroma. Some sweet toffee in mouth. Some more barrel on finish. Not my favourite.

(Draught at the 16th Kerstbierfestival) The beer poured dark reddish brown and hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had sweetness, coriander and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, spices, coriander, sweetness, aniseed, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy and bitter. There wasn’t any really unpleasant flavours but the combination just didn’t work.

330ml bottle. Dark reddish brown body with a fine, creamy and lasting tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, some caramel, brown sugar, spices and slightly roasted. Flavor is light roasted, sweet malt, liquorices, spices, dark fruit and a distinct bitterness. Full bodied, complex flavor, very nice, long aftertaste with a pleasant and warming touch of alcohol. A bit unusually to be Belgian and still definitively Belgium. Nice.
