Bottled, bought in Grobbendonk. Cloudy amber color, medium off-white head. Aroma of yeast, some mustard, slight sugar and hop. Slight sweet and bitter taste, quite dry and yeasty as well. Not brilliant.

25 cL bottle. Pours hazy and deep orange with a lacing off-white head. Dense malt aroma and solid overripe fruity too. Flavour is dense malt, light yeasty touch to a solid fruity note. Dense malt finish with sharp malt bite and alcohol note into the finish.

11.2 fl oz bottle purchased at Lukas, KCMO. Pour is hazy orange yellow, initial one inch white head falls really fast with crackling carbonation bubbles. Aroma of citrus lemons. Some sourness. Taste is really citrusy and spicy (coriander and cloves). The citrus is equal parts lemon and lime. Wheat character comes through in taste. A bit of menthol in the finish. Palate is thin, with very fizzy carbonation. Overall, meh.

Cloudy amber color. The aroma has, in the beginning, some nice malt; the mouthfeel is too dry and alcoholic, with just some light caramel flavor. The fermentation has used too much of the sugars. Strangely, it has a parmesan touch both in the aroma and flavor. Disappointing.

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow to orange with a bubbly, white and shortlived head. Citrus fruity aroma, mild spiced. Initial flavour is citrusy to orange fruity. Mild spice flavour beneath can be sensed, but that’s about it. Quite fresh and fruity finish. Quite drinkable yet nothing outstanding.

Hazy brown-amber ale with a small cream-beige head, fading. Strange musk-like smell, nearly animal, with whiffs of black chocolate and cardamom. But the meaty/estery, musky smell keeps determinant. Vinous warming up. Bitter tasting, hoppy and burnt, with bitter chocolate flavours and a backthroat spirit flavour, that is strangely more Bourbon- or whiskylike than brandyish. Peanuts flavour and more meaty esters warming up. Thinned by the alcohol, I think, but the base seems pretty rich. The alcohol peeps out, warming, after some time getting sharper. Quite good balance, much better than the original Catherine. Aftertaste gets finally something sweetish warming up. Very good one, and another proof for my pet idea, that Belgian brewers really should look more into barrel-aging. And fast, too.

Huge, very dense & fine head with a cream- to mango-like colour over amber, hazy beer with a mossy shine. Sweet, cakey nose with an aroma of lytchee hops; smouldering tobacco and caramel. Very nice indeed. Very smokey taste, (pipe)tobacco, cake, dry, smoked straw, black cardemoms, Islay malt. Every sip ends on a dry, bitterish but perfumed note. Excellent! Rich MF, well-bodied but not viscous. Warming up, the above flavours lasting ever longer, spiked more and more by the (whisky) alcohol. One of Johan’s best! And it contains coriander, at that!

Bottle @ home.Clear light to medium yellow orange color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, fully dimimnishing, white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, wheat, light to moderate yeasty, spices, notes of medicine - lime shell. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. (230408)

Bottle at ’t Brugs Beertje. Interesting dijon aroma. Hazy amber color with a fluffy beige head. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Herby dijon flavor over medium caramel.Finishes quite dry with a dijon flavor staying around. Quite different.
