(Bottle at VBPF08 on 2008-05-18) Deep dark brown. Quite brown and very big head. Yeasty and sweet nose. Full palate that dries quite quickly. Lots of sweet malts and some roasted in taste. Yeast. Noticeable amount of bitterness. I wouldn’t really call this an imperial stout, though.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of BelJohansen. Pours a hazy, orangey brown with floating impurities and a tall, beige head that leaves some laces. Aroma of burned malt and yeast. Full-bodied with sweet, burned malts and yeast. Distinctly bitter finish - mainly from the hops I believe. Again a rather different Belgian take on an Impy. 160408

Hazy brown with large off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with caramel, toasted malt and hoppy notes. Sweet flavor with hoppy, caramel and toasted malt notes. Ends bitter.

From miketd, he knows what I like (why the hell this is not in NY yet?). Pours a beautiful dark dark orange with reddish hues color. Cannot see through it yet it radiates. The head is initially small and fades into a small halo lacing. The aroma first of hits you with a sweet, woody, alcoholic barrel. Then you got some sweet candy, and a signature Belgian "airiness." I was very taken back, did not expect such prominent whiskey barrel from this brewer and I actually really liked it. With the taste, I was surprised because it is not cloying and sweet like the regular Kerst. Its really easy to drink, light earthy and doughy yeastiness, some lightly sweet candi sugar and faint orange flavors. Not really feeling anything close to 11% alcohol. The residuals sugar from the regular Kerst are really eaten up here, which I guess bumped up the abv. Very nice beer, it still keeps the Belgian feel while bringing out the barrel.

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Dark red amber colour. Yeasty soapy aroma, Moderate bitter flavor. Powerfull long finish. Creamy palate. OK beer but more like BSA than Stout.

Bottle. A vigorous escape upon opening. Aroma of yeast and fruity esters. Color is ripe apricot and the head is full and slightly rocky off-white. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is quite complex. Fruity, yeasty, malty, vinous. A touch of wood, and some bitter hop. A hint of citrus, could be coriander. Overall it’s really impressive. And not a hint of heat - pretty good for 12%. This may be the beer.

Bottle. Clear medium to dark orange amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, roasted, fruity - berry / sweet, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter, light to moderate vinegar (mustard) with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. (050308)

ZBF08. Fruity aroma. Very dark brown colour, muddy. The flavour is liquorice, some mild anis. Roasted and creamy. Not as nice as it sounds.

Super cool miketd bonused this to me, right on. It poured with a brown color, but that did not phase me much, I am not looking for the prototypical Impy with this beer. The head was humongous though, all thick and bubbly and very Belgian. The aroma is sweet Belgian yeast dough brownies with chocolate chip highlights. Taste is not as central on the sweet brownie chocolate but turns into a light brown sugar sweetness. A thicker mouthfeel with some reduced carbonation (weird when looking at the large head). Absolutely no sense of alcohol, low on hops and bitterness. For me its another Regenboog hit and another Belgian Strong masquerading as an Imperial Stout success.

Cloudy orange amber body with a small white head. Sweet caramel and candi sugar aroma with some light sour apple. Sweet sour apple flavor with lots of candi sugar and light spice. Smooth spicy finish. Medium body with farily high carbonation.
