Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, deep orangey golden with a small, off-white head. Interesting spicy, malty aroma. Rich, malty body, there's some caramel and toffee sweetness and a hint of licorice. Not nuch bitterness yet still balanced and very drinkable. 150920

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head. Subdued, flowery hop aroma. Medium body, good maltiness, somewhat dusty and also a slight cardboard note. Decent hop finish. 100920

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear brown with a neat, orange hue and a small, beige head. Really delicious nose, cocoa powder, vanilla and chocolate biscuits. Medium body, all of the above notes in the flavor also and a pleasantly balanced sweetness. Subbdued bitterness. Lovely Dunkel. 100920

Bottle (750ml): Copper coloured, unclear, slowly diminishing medium-sized off-white head, sweetish toasty and fruity-caramelly nose, hops only detectable in molecular traces, but a bit boozy instead of it; mild sweetish-bitter flavour, nearly medium bodied, a bit harsh; boozy again in the sweetish caramelly-fruity finish with almost chocolatey traces in the aftertaste. Not that bad, but just a bit monotonous...

Two 25cl bottles @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, July 17, courtesy of Haddock after his recent travels to East Germany. Many thanks. Was given strict instructions to serve at room temperature, which I was a bit wary of, but on initial sip it seems to suit the style well. Taste seems dominated by a chai latte character, with lots of cinnamon and similar spice. Has a fair sweetness, but I can certainly understand why this is recommended nightcap drinking. I enjoyed it.

Bought a three bottle ’handbag’ at the brewery in May this year. Opened one of the .25 litre bottles at home for a ’nightcap’ on 15th July 2017. I shall share the other two bottles at the next Shrewsbury Beer Exchange meeting to allow others to experience the brew. Really liked it actually. Supposed to be drank at room temperature as a ’nightcap’ (hence the name of the beer). Pours a black colour, wispy head. The beer is full of herbs and spices and may well have medicinal properties, it certainly tasted that way, the nose was also medicine like. Different and interesting: I picked up coriander and cardamom within the aromas and flavours, plenty of other esters and tastes to find if your nasal organ and taste buds are in good order.

Walked out to the Brauhaus from the centre of Pirna on 11th May 2017. This was the last of the four beers they had on tap that I tried. On the Menu as a Mai Bock (6.6% ABV). Misty amber body, full white crown on top. Malts rule this Bock, light malts, but sweet molasses linger in the mouth throughout with only a very mild bitterness in the finish. My sweet tooth loved it.

Walked out to the Brauhaus from the centre of Pirna on 11th May 2017. This was the third of the four beers they had on tap that I tried. Unfiltered orange/amber body, off-white affair on top. Strange one this, malty and fairly sweet, but a weird aroma and taste had me searching for what I was smelling and tasting: fruity, kind of; yeasty, kind of. And so it went on, never did find the flavours I was trying for.
