Description

Maenhout’s first, tasted when it first came onto the market. Loose, cream white head, misty peach blonde colour with slightly brownish hue. Aroma starts off nicely with apple, coriander, orange peel, and then it makes a turn for the worse with my friends H2S (rotten egg), DMS (cooked cabbage) and sweat... Fruity taste, malt sweetness, slick and elegant with grassy hops but then there’s the retronasal DMS ruining it. I must have had a bad bottle and I suspect this has much improved meanwhile, viewing the other ratings here and viewing the quality of their current beers. Time to give it a second chance.

Blonde session ale from Maenhout, since 2013; snow white, creamy head, deep golden blonde colour. Aroma of white grapes, grassy hops, pine resin, apple, caramel. Fruity, well-rounded taste, delicate, long and nicely hoppy finish, more so than most blonde session ales in Belgium. Very well-balanced and thirst-quenching brew.

New beer with a stable, off-white head and misty golden blonde colour; nose gets green apple, caramel, green hops, pineapple and mango; taste a rounded fruitiness with fresh citrus accent, yeasty, caramel malt sweetishness, finish nutty and toasty with flowery hoppiness. Not bad but nothing really exciting, either.

Maenhout’s second, tasted from a 75 cl bottle. Thick, light beige head on a reddish, bronze beer. Aroma of honey, nuts, caramel, old port wine, brambleberries, cassis, grassy hops; taste at first a fresh sourish fruitiness, berries, then a nutty and caramelly maltiness, rounded and quite smooth and perhaps even slightly oily mouthfeel, sweetish raisin touch, finishing in a soft grassy hoppiness, gently bitterish.

Bottled @ Camping Ratebeers 2014, small sample. Love the label. Slight hazy orange color, short head. Aroma is fruity, some grapefruit, slight mint, bit citrus. Medium bitter in taste, slight caramelly sweetness. Decent beer.
