Description
A little background... In Richmond Virginia’s unbelievable beer scene, one of the pioneering brewpubs is a place called the Answer. Brandon Tolbert, as many of the craftiest craft beer folks know, was the head brewer and creative force behind this brewpub. He left the Answer a short while ago, when they started taking a different approach to making beer, and set out to do his own thing.
Well, flash forward to today and Brandon’s new creative project is imminently happening.

Admin Note: Beers are contract brewed at Twelve Percent Beer Project in North Haven, CT

16 oz. can in a trade with tfontana, thanks Tom for the opportunity! Canned 03/12/20. Aroma is pear, peach, soft pineappleish. Flavor follows. The ABV is undetectable. Extremely juicy texture. Popping with juice. Zero bitterness. Prototypical New England IPA.

16 ounce can. Jet black pour. No head at all. Roasted malt aroma hints at chocolate and coconut. Flavor brings lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate, espresso and cinnamon. Huge body and boozy notes as expected from the 12% ABV. Toasted coconut comes through as the brew warms. Bitter resiny hop finish.

Can pour from Twelve Percent, North Haven. Appearance is cloudy light brown-dark yellow with light sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with fair retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is citrus, mild yeast, whiff of herb. Taste is strong citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, slightly bitter, mild yeast. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a good representative of the style. Nothing special but checks the right boxes. Above average.

Coffee, coconut, chocolatey, Indonesian cinnamon, though not that I could tell any cinnamon apart. Maple syrup hint. Abundance of greatness!
