350 ml can from Masuyo’s. Drank straight from the can. Aroma of grain and lemondrop with some sugar present as well. Taste is more of the same. Like a lager with lemon syrup or candy dropped in. Thin body with light carbonation. Only 4% but a bit boozy on the first few sips. As it warms somehow it becomes kind of refreshing and could be nice on a hot summer afternoon I guess.

Green bottle pours out a clear crisp golden topped with a small white head. Nose is skunk at first then cereal malts and some fresh cut grass. Taste very thin and watery a little grain along with some soap.

Upside down can wild. Pours out a hazy straw topped with a fluffy white head. Nose is lots of fresh citrus orange and lots of lemon zest. Taste is more of the citrus fruits pretty much orange and lemon the whole time.

Bottle from Kaldi Coffee. Super light clear gold with a lemon juice aroma. The taste was lager with lemon juice added to it. Average at best though I guess it could be refreshing in the summer...

330 ml bottle from Yokohama Hakurankan @ Yokohama Chinatown. This beer looked very intriguing as it seemed to be originally Finnish, yet brewed in Japan. Online search revealed that true, this beer used to be brewed in Finland in 1970s - as one of "Admiral Beer" series. This one displayed Japanese admiral Heihachiro Togo who played a key role in beating Russian navy in Russo-Japanese war - leading to weaker imperial Russia and making it possible for Finland to become independent. Although the production of this beer was discontinued in Finland in early 1990s, it seems to have continued in Japan. Interesting story - but is the beer interesting as well? It pours very pale, looks very watery. Considering the super pale look of the beer, the aroma is actually not so bad - light malts, a bit of biscuits. Taste however is just as it looks - really light, a bit of malts, even less hops. Extremely short aftertaste. I guess when you are after high drinkability and do not like taste of beer, this is your best choice. Maybe this one would be nice to drink in summer, during a hot day - but you can find similar tasteless beers much much cheaper. Overall interesting story behind below average beer.

Can. Had this many times, never got around to rating it. nice wit nose, very citrusy, with lemon and orange notes, wheat, coriander. Bready and rich. Typical cloudy pale gold-yellow with a low head. Sweet, fruity, spicy, wheat. Very typical. Refreshing, a bit too sweet and cakey, but decent, and better then the bigger import from Belgium that is now everywhere. Decent price too.

Bottle from Yodobashi Camera in Kyoto for maybe about 400 yen? I drank it straight from the bottle so I am not too sure about it’s appearance. It had a Grolsch like somewhat skunky aroma which could be due to the green bottle (judging by the picture I guess they switched from a brown one?). I think it is a decent enough pilsner, ok malt profile with a bitter hop finish. Nothing special really but it was enjoyable on a hot day sitting outside by Higashi-Honganji. Judging from the comments, it is possible that pouring this into a glass allows the not so pleasant aroma to come to the fore. I drank it from the bottle & it was alright.

Bottle. Pale golden with a tall head. Malty, grainy aroma with grass, some corn, very light hops. DMS infection? Corn, grain, light hopping with a touch of citrus and a bit of bitterness. Somewhat fizzy. Not very good at all. Was better in the past. This is a drain pour. They shouldn’t bother.
