Pours inky void with thin dark tan head. The aroma is sweet with malts, caramel malts, some burnt malts, a touch of chocolate and thin wafers of spicy earthy citrus hoppiness. The taste comes across in typical Zhukov fashion with lots of tasty smooth roasty malts mixing with velvety dark chocolate as well as light notes of spicy to earthy hops.

Pours deep amber with copper hues and thin tan head. The aroma is very sweet with dark fruitiness coming from berries, sweet currants, cherries, plums, prunes and a modest berry skin earthiness. The taste I sweet and smooth with all the notes noted in the nose. The dark fruitiness blends smoothly into modest citrus candy notes, berry notes and a modest background to earthiness.

Courtesy of markwise. Pours deep amber with thin tan head. The aroma is a mix of orange hard candy, sweet dark fruitiness and modest notes of cedar. The taste is smooth and creamy becoming very sweet with sugary citrus hard candy, cherry hard candy and a slight note of earthiness. By midway I get a light note of cedar blending in to the rest of the flavor notes. Pretty fruity sweet overall.

bottle #415/480, pours dark brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma is big with bourbon notes and a oaky vanilla note. Huge malt character, carmel, chocolate. It’s all tied together with a big fresh bourbon flavor that lingers into some wood notes. Really nice brew, kind of hot, I can see this mellowing out nicely.

From Beerman6686 at the Pgh RB gathering 12/09, thanks Dan! First let me say that I am not worthy of this beer. I rate by how much I like it and not to scale so blow off my numbers. Smells like a mild imperial stout. laced with some volatile whiskey. Hot alky burn on the intial taste. Whiskey, commencement, way too much for this lager lover. Anise, locrice, perhaps coffee and other dark rude desirable atttributes. Barely any carbonation. Over the top, just like a big beer should. Oily mouth coating finish, overall pretty strong.

bottle thanks to Daknole, a nice pffsssttt as the bottle opens releases a nice mist and I start to pour. Now I know I have used the term "motor oil" and "thick as hell" before, but no other beer, NOT ONE can touch the consistency that this brew has. Pouring it in the glass I get the feeling that this beer could clog my arteries, it honestly looked like maple syrup going on pancakes. Once settled in the glass, a thin waterfall leaves a very dark and mean looking dark brown head. The aroma is unique to any other RIS nose I have had the pleasure of sniffing. Strong expresso, booze, dark fruits, and wood. Really no sweet aromas at all. It’s entirely dark, bitter, and brutal smelling. Flavors follow that thought process to a T. Bitter expresso, molasses, oak, and a dryness in the mouth from a nice hop character. There is balance, but it seems more of a balance of one form of bitter to another. There really isn’t a sweet note at all, and it’s really not a bad thing at all. This puppy is dark and dangerous. Thanks to Dak and CCB!
