Draught at Festivus 2, 12/12/15.
Hazy blonde-golden beer is well-carbonated and has a medium-sized white head that fades to cover.
Aroma shows light lactic character, lots of restraint on the adjuncts and a bit of breadiness from the malts. There’s a soft coriander character that adds a freshness to the beer, though it’s more toned down, even, than the Gosatequin. Notes of vanilla, caramelized honey and light peppers on the finish all seem to-style. Not as funky as some goses can be, but that’s perfectly fine. No alcohol/flaws.
The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, showing bready malts, light caramel sweetness and hints of vanilla. A touch of saltiness mixes with light lactic acidity on the finish, but this isn’t a powerfully acidic beer. The strongly malty, or perhaps more correctly, dextrinous character is here, just like in Exilior, no doubt a product of the mashing technique. It gives the beer a ton of body and texture without over-sweetening things. Lots of similarities to both Exilior and Gosatequin, but still manages to be its own beer. Another wonderful example from OEC, though maybe could use a bit less body to add some more drinkability to it.

Draught at OEC Festivus 2, 12/12/15.
Moderately hazy light copper-golden body is topped by a medium-sized white head that slowly fades to cover.
Just like in the gosatequin, the herbs are very tastefully done. Nowhere near dominating the nose, and allowing a mild lactic and brett character to show through. Very light touch of brown bread and caramel, perhaps from the rye and pale malt interplay, with a touch of barrel influence but no overt liquor notes. Good yeast presence, fresh and lightly rustic. No alcohol or flaws.
Spicy, with a gentle acidity at first that builds quickly and climaxes through the middle, joining moderately sweet malt - very light caramel and honey wheat bread. Fine carbonation , tight and helping keep things crisp and mostly dry. Acidity tapers off on the finish, leading to light barrel dryness and/or wheat. Pepper, very light sage and mild tropical fruit notes lingering. Incredibly quenching and drinkable. Filling, yet not heavy. So few brewers in the world can make a decent spiced/herbal saison. Not surprised OEC is one of them.
