Since 1994, the Casco Bay Brewing Company has distinguished itself by brewing exceptional ales and lagers. This excellence has been recognized at both the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival, where our beers have won many Gold and Silver medals over the years.
Admin Note: Casco Bay was acquired by Shipyard in 2008 and they continued to brew Casco Bay beers at Shipyard but maintained the Casco Bay branding. Looks like as of at least 2015 the brand has ceased to be brewed at Shipyard.

From old tasting notes. Dark opaque black liquid. Creamy tan head. Aromatic chocolate malt nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Dry hop finish is spicy.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber almost muddled brown color with a thin finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a fairly quick pace. Barely any lace.
The aroma had some spicy to earthy to dried grassy mild hops flowing over some a biscuity maltiness and a light caramel to toffee smoothness.
The flavor brings together the malts to the hops fairly balanced. Nicely blended malty to hoppy aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation feels good on my tongue. Malts seem somewhat slick on my tongue.
Overall, pretty good English styled strong ale that I could come back to.

The aroma has some nutty malts lightly dosed by some caramel and toffee notes.
The flavor is sweet through the previously mentioned aromas. Light sweet nutty malty aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Low to medium carbonation. Gripping nuttiness on my tongue.
Overall, decent English styled brown ale that I could have again.

Darker Belgian pour with fast creamy thin head. Smell is a little mossy. Creamy malty darker sweeter tasting thing. Almost cloying at times. Thicker malty bitter stuff. Certainly has a darker celtic side to it. Could only do one. Does not hide alky well. Mouth coating malt. Down thar wit Gray Irish Great Lakes Conway’s Irish Ale Samuel Adams Irish Red Ale Ohio Brewing Double Irish Red Carlow O’Hara’s Irish Red & Flying Bison Aviator. Could not appreciate.
